Trail Sports is Canmore's leading mountain bike rental shop. Located at the Canmore Nordic Centre, we provide premium retail, rentals, lessons, and guiding experiences to thousands of guests every year. Position Summary

The Workshop Manager is responsible for leading all workshop operations while ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and organization. This role oversees the day-to-day workflow of the service department, manages maintenance priorities, supports and mentors workshop staff, and works closely with the General Manager to ensure our rental fleet and customer equipment remain in excellent condition.

Success in this role requires exceptional organizational skills, strong mechanical knowledge, leadership, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Workshop Leadership

- Work closely with the General Manager to establish workshop priorities and communicate critical operational issues.
- Coordinate daily workshop activities to ensure work is completed efficiently and on schedule.
- Assign maintenance and repair work appropriately among workshop technicians and other qualified staff.
- Foster a collaborative, positive, and accountable team environment.
- Integrate effectively with our experienced maintenance team while promoting consistency in procedures and workmanship.

Fleet Management

- Take ownership of the reliability and performance of Trail Sports' rental fleet.
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules that maximize equipment lifespan.
- Work toward maintaining high fleet availability throughout the operating season.
- Ensure all rental equipment meets Trail Sports' standards for safety, performance, and presentation.

Quality Control





- Take responsibility for the quality of all work completed by the workshop team.
- Perform quality inspections and provide coaching where necessary.
- Establish and maintain consistent workshop procedures and best practices.
- Ensure all repairs are completed safely and to manufacturer specifications.

Workshop Operations

- Manage workshop workload and daily logistics.
- Maintain a clean, organized, efficient, and safe workshop environment.
- Ensure tools, workstations, and service equipment are properly maintained.
- Continuously improve workshop processes and efficiency.

Inventory Management

- Manage workshop spare parts and consumable inventory.
- Coordinate with the buyer to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Forecast seasonal parts requirements.
- Ensure critical replacement parts are available to minimize equipment downtime.

Communication

- Provide regular updates to the General Manager regarding workshop performance, fleet readiness, inventory concerns, and staffing requirements.
- Work collaboratively with retail staff to prioritize customer repairs alongside rental fleet maintenance.
- Support customer service by providing accurate repair timelines and technical guidance when required.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

The Workshop Manager will be evaluated against measurable operational objectives, including:

- Rental Fleet Availability: Maintain at least 90% of the rental bike fleet in rentable condition and available for customer use during normal operating hours throughout the operating season.
- Maintenance Turnaround:



Complete all maintenance and repair work that does not require special-order parts within 3 days of the equipment entering the workshop.
- Quality of Work: Ensure repairs are completed correctly the first time, minimizing repeat repairs, warranty work, and customer complaints.
- Workshop Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and efficient workshop at all times.
- Inventory Management: Maintain appropriate stock levels of critical workshop parts and consumables while minimizing unnecessary inventory.
- Preventative Maintenance: Maintain preventative maintenance schedules that maximize fleet reliability and reduce unexpected downtime.
- Communication: Proactively communicate operational issues, staffing requirements, inventory concerns, and maintenance priorities with the General Manager.

Qualifications

- Extensive experience servicing modern bicycles, including suspension systems, hydraulic brakes, drivetrains, and e-bikes.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience is considered a strong asset.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead by example and foster a positive team culture.

Schedule

This position is intended to provide leadership during our busiest operating days. The successful candidate will typically work one of the following schedules:

- Thursday through Sunday, or
- Saturday through Tuesday

Specific scheduling will be determined based on seasonal operational requirements. Flexibility to work weekends and holidays during peak operating periods is expected.

Pay: $26.00-$30.00 per hour
