Summary:

The Childcare Worker provides quality child-minding for children whose parents or caregivers are attending onsite BFL Family Life Education programs and events. This role ensures a safe, engaging, and welcoming environment for children from diverse backgrounds. The Childcare Worker is responsible for preparing the child-minding space, facilitating developmentally appropriate activities, and supporting program administration, including registration, intake, attendance and sign in. The Childcare Worker nurtures positive experiences for both children and families, ensuring parents can participate in programs with peace of mind.

Key Responsibilities

- Provides developmentally appropriate care for children while parents/caregivers participate in onsite programming or events.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment that supports children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being.
- Support the planning and facilitation of engaging activities such as play-based learning, art, storytelling, and other age-appropriate experiences.




- Attends to the children’s physical needs (which may include providing snacks with awareness of allergies and food restrictions), excluding diapering and feeding.
- Communicate clearly with parents and caregivers regarding routines, expectations, and their child’s well-being during the session.
- Works collaboratively with the Family Educator, Lead Child Care Worker and child-minding teams, ensuring schedules and locations are confirmed, clients understand age and group capacity for child minding services, support parents with separation anxiety related to childminding services, offer resources or referrals to parents as appropriate.
- Prepare, set up, and take down the child-minding area before and after sessions.
- Ensure toys, materials, and equipment are clean, safe, and suitable for children of varying ages.
- Maintain a tidy, organized, and hazard-free environment in accordance with health and safety standards.
- Assist with participant registration and sign-in and sign-out process, input attendance into ShareVision after each session.
- Follow organizational confidentiality, child safeguarding, and emergency procedures.
- Report any issues, concerns, or incidents to the program manager or supervisor promptly.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications/ Education / Certification

- Current First Aid and CPR certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid Food Safe Level 1 Certification.

Experience & Skills





- Experience working with young children in group or childcare settings.
- Understanding of child development and play-based learning.
- Ability to support families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds with warmth and professionalism.
- Ability to remain calm while dealing with emergency situations that may arise.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions

- May involve light lifting, floor-based play, and moving equipment.
- Hours may vary depending on program schedules.
- A criminal record check and/or vulnerable sector check is required.

Job Title: Child Care Worker- Family Life Education

Work Site Location(s): BFL Locations, including McKercher, Edmonds and Community

Weekly Hours: Up to 18 hours weekly / shift schedules and hours will vary based on

program schedule and funding availability

Shift Hours: Up to 18 hours weekly will be scheduled based on the days and times of current program offerings- programs are established by manager in advance of each session cycle (winter, spring, summer and fall)

Wage: $20.30 - $21.54

Benefits: Not eligible for group advantages

Start Date: September 2026

End Date: March 31, 2027 with possibility of extension
