Canadian Foothills; during the past year Cavvy has strategically refocused on sustaining and growing its
upstream exploration and production (“E&P;”) and midstream business. Our objective is to continue Cavvy’s
pivot towards growing a sustainable and profitable conventional Foothills oil and natural gas business while
continuing to explore opportunities to diversify market access for the products we produce.
Position summary
The Millwright/Heavy Duty Mechanic role is responsible for executing and optimizing maintenance activities to
ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of rotating and mobile equipment. This role focuses on
performing corrective and preventative maintenance, assessing equipment condition, and delivering effective
troubleshooting and repair solutions. Working closely with operations, maintenance leadership, and external
vendors, the technician supports continuous improvement of predictive and preventative maintenance
programs.
The position requires strong technical expertise, adherence to safety and regulatory standards, and the ability to
work in dynamic environments, including outdoor conditions and on-call situations. Additionally, the role
contributes to equipment reliability and cost efficiency by supporting root cause analysis, maintenance planning,
and best practice implementation while fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing across teams. Working
outdoors in adverse conditions and overtime may be required as determined by business needs.
Key responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Compliance:
- Provide visible leadership and support across all safety programs; lead by example.
- Ensure Cavvy safety standards are consistently followed.
- Understand and comply with the Management of Change (MOC) process for rotating equipment
modifications.
Technical Expertise & Equipment Reliability:
- Provide guidance, coaching, mentoring, and training on rotating equipment, including troubleshooting,
best practices, and repair strategies.
- Optimize rotating equipment performance to improve operational availability and reduce maintenance
costs.
- Lead and/or assist in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of rotating equipment failures and recommend
corrective actions.
Operational & Cross-Function Collaboration:
- Collaborate across disciplines and functions to ensure safe, effective, and effective operations.
- Maintain collaborative and positive employee relations.
Vendor Contract & Management:
- Partner with vendors to resolve technical issues and develop innovative solutions.
Maintenance Planning and Execution:
- Develop repair scopes for rotating equipment during outages, major maintenance, and turnaround
events.
Education, work experience, and skills
Education, Experience & Designations:
- Journeyman Millwright or Heavy Duty Mechanic.
- Minimum of five years specializing in rotating equipment operation and maintenance, with preference
for steam turbine and hydrocarbon pump/compression equipment.
- Knowledge of oil & gas production/processing industry,
or experience in a related heavy or complex
processing industry working with large rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, utility equipment,
diesel/gas engines, steam turbines, auxiliary systems, and instrumentation).
- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis, sponsorship is not available for this
role.
Skills & Attributes:
- Knowledge and Experience with engines (Waukesha, CAT).
- Knowledge and Experience with compressors/Gearboxes (Superior, Dresser Rand, York, Union).
- Proficient with shaft alignment on all equipment.
- Skill in selection and maintenance of rotating equipment sealing systems, lubrication systems, and
condition monitoring systems (including vibration analysis and control).
- Awareness of investigative processes, tools, and reporting requirements.
Other Requirements:
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Willingness to work and establish residence within one hour of the Caroline Gas Complex (Caroline or
Sundre area).
