Silviculture-Planner
The Place:
The Woodlands Division of Aspen Planers Ltd in Merritt BC is currently accepting resumes for a Silviculture Planner.
The Position:
Aspen Planers Ltd. (AP) is seeking a dynamic, self-starting, team-orientated individual to serve as a Silviculture Planner (SP). The SP reports to the Silviculture Manager, but also works in conjunction with the forestlands team. The role will be to provide support in the implementation of AP’s Silviculture program; as well as, some planning activities as directed by the planning department.
Responsibilities:
Primary activities will include helping with the maintenance of silviculture corporate data in Phoenix and ArcGIS, and handling administrative duties including maintaining and reporting operation and silviculture activities in RESULTS. Contract management. Additional silviculture-related activities include, post-harvest site assessments for reforestation prescriptions, planting supervision, site prep supervision field surveys for Regen, stocking, free
growing and walkthrough assessments. RPAS field scans.
Seedling Management and sowing in SPAR.
Secondary activities planning & operational-related will include helping with engineering layout, GPSing cutblocks boundaries, site plan data collection, cruising, and road deactivation.
Education:
Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Forestry or related degree in Natural Resources Management; and eligible for accreditation with the Association of BC Forests Professional (RPF or RFT).
Qualifications:
- A minimum of two years of experience in silviculture operational activities is required,
- Some experience in Planning and Operational field forestry activities,
- Basic working knowledge of legal regulations and requirements related to BC Forestry Legislation, policy and procedures,
- Strong understanding, knowledge, and implementation of efficient and cost-effective operations in business,
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a changing environment,
- Accreditation as a silviculture surveyor would an asset,
- Basic understanding of the Phoenix data base system,
- Familiar with silviculture surveys data collector software, i.e. SAP, SNAP is required,
- Experience with GIS mapping would be considered an asset,
- Versatile to travel and stay in remote areas during planting seasons may be required,
- Must possess a valid Class 5 B.C> Driver’s license that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
