**Job Title: Insulator** **Job Description**
This role focuses on installing, removing, and repairing mechanical and wall insulation within large-scale marine and industrial projects at a major shipyard.
You will work on complex vessels, including joint support ships and an icebreaker, ensuring high-quality thermal and acoustical insulation on a wide range of equipment and structures.
**Responsibilities**
+ Apply, remove, and repair thermal and acoustical insulation such as calcium silicate, glass foam, mineral wool, fiberglass, and similar materials on industrial equipment including duct piping, heat exchangers, tanks, and vessels.
+ Read and interpret drawings and specifications to determine insulation requirements for various systems and components.
+ Select the appropriate amount and type of insulation to be installed, along with the correct method of securing the insulation (including pin welding, wiring, banding, and taping) based on surface type and shape, temperature conditions, location, and equipment use.
+ Measure and cut insulating materials and coverings to the required shapes and dimensions to ensure accurate fit and coverage.
+ Fit insulation around obstructions and shape insulation materials and protective coverings to accommodate complex geometries and tight spaces.
+ Install vapour barriers and finish insulated surfaces by applying metal cladding, canvas, PVC, or cement to meet project specifications and durability requirements.
+ Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently to complete insulation installation and repair tasks.
+ Follow construction and marine worksite procedures and safety practices while working within an active shipyard environment.
+ Collaborate with forepersons, supervisors, and team members to meet project schedules and quality standards.
+ Work overtime on weekends when required to support project deadlines and milestones.
**Essential Skills**
+ Registered insulation apprentice or journeyperson status.
+ Ability to operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
+ Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly for effective communication and understanding of drawings and specifications.
+ Completion of CSTS (Construction Safety Training System) or equivalent safety training.
+ Capability to work in construction and marine environments, including industrial and shipyard settings.
+ Reliable transportation to and from the shipyard.
+ Ability to work with mechanical, carpentry, sheet metal, and general labor tasks related to insulation installation.
+ Robust attention to detail when measuring, cutting, and fitting insulation materials.
+ Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications to determine insulation requirements.
+ Physical ability to perform manual labor, including standing, bending, lifting, and working in confined or elevated spaces.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Insulation experience in industrial, construction, or marine environments (strongly preferred).
+ Carpentry experience, particularly in construction or shipyard settings.
+ Sheet metal experience related to cladding and protective coverings.
+ General labor experience in construction or industrial projects.
+ Strong English communication skills for coordination with supervisors and team members.
+ Familiarity with marine or shipyard work environments.
+ Willingness to work on long-term projects and learn through apprenticeship opportunities.

**Work Environment**
This position is based at a major shipyard in North Vancouver, working on large-scale vessels such as joint support ships and a polar icebreaker.
The site offers on-site parking, though spaces can fill quickly, and you will be part of a sizeable project team of approximately 120 workers, supported by multiple supervisors and forepersons.
The standard schedule is a day shift from 5:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with weekend overtime as required by project needs.
The environment is industrial and marine-focused, involving work inside ships and around mechanical systems, where you will use a variety of hand and power tools and work with materials such as metal cladding, canvas, PVC, and cement.
You should expect a construction-style setting with active work areas, adherence to safety protocols, and practical work attire suitable for an industrial shipyard.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Vancouver, BC.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
