About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a lovely woman living in a retirement home in Stratford. She has dementia and uses a walker independently. While the facility provides meal and medication support, she needs specialized help with personal hygiene. She has lost her sense of smell and doesn't remember when she last showered or changed clothes. She's mobile, kind-hearted, and capable of bathing herself—she just needs someone to set things up, provide gentle encouragement, and ensure she completes the task safely.

Responsibilities:

- Assist with shower setup and supervision (she maintains her own privacy and independence)
- Use gentle redirection techniques to encourage bathing—mentioning "the doctor has asked us to do this" works well
- Lay out fresh clothes and ensure soiled items go to laundry
- Provide calm, patient support without being condescending or using baby talk
- Respect her dignity and boundaries while ensuring hygiene tasks are completed
- Light assistance as needed during bathing, though she's largely independent

What We're Looking For:

- Experience working with clients who have dementia or Alzheimer's
- Patient, friendly demeanor with excellent redirection skills
- Ability to persist gently when met with initial resistance
- Someone who treats seniors with respect and speaks to them normally
- Understanding that she may refuse help at first but responds well to calm, legitimate reasoning
- Female caregiver required for personal care comfort
- English speaking
- Reliable and consistent—same caregiver, same schedule

Schedule:

Three times per week (every other day pattern preferred),



one-hour visits. Versatile on specific days and times. This is ongoing care with potential to adjust frequency as needed.

Important Notes:

This client is not difficult—she's a wonderful person who simply needs the right approach. She responds poorly to caregivers who are pushy or patronizing, but does very well with someone who is patient, respectful, and matter-of-fact. Previous PSW support hasn't worked due to inconsistent caregivers and approaches that didn't match her personality. We need someone experienced with memory care who understands that "no" often means "I need more gentle convincing" rather than a final answer.
