Title: Senior Site Superintendent – Healthcare Construction
Location: Ottawa, ON
Pay: $40.00–$55.00 per hour (based on experience)
The Site Superintendent is responsible for leading all in office construction activities, in a healthcare IPAC sensitive environment, and ensuring that projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract documents, drawings, and specifications. This role serves as the primary site leader, overseeing daily field operations, trade coordination, and adherence to schedule and quality standards. The Superintendent works closely with the Project Manager and Project Coordinator to plan and manage resources, monitor progress, and maintain clear communication with all stakeholders. Acting as the field representative, the Superintendent upholds the company’s commitment to quality, safety,
and professionalism across all project phases.
Key Responsibilities
1. Site Administration & Coordination
- Manage daily on-site operations to ensure compliance with contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Coordinate and supervise all subcontractors, suppliers, and site personnel to maintain productivity and quality standards.
- Maintain detailed daily reports, site photos, and progress documentation within company systems.
- Oversee site setup, logistics planning, deliveries, and material handling to ensure efficient use of space and resources.
- Ensure inspection readiness and coordinate with consultants and authorities having jurisdiction for required inspections and testing.
2. Schedule, Quality, & Cost Control
- Develop, maintain, and update two-week lookahead schedules in coordination with the Project Manager.
- Monitor progress against milestones and take corrective action to address delays or deficiencies.
- Perform quality control inspections to ensure compliance with specifications and workmanship standards.
- Assist the Project Manager with verification of time-and-materials work, site quantities, and change order documentation.
- Implement cost-saving measures through efficient sequencing, coordination, and problem -solving.
3. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Serve as the competent person on-site as defined under the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- (OHSA).
- Be IPAC Certified with strong healthcare experience
- Ensure all site personnel comply with Health & Safety Policy and project-specific safety plans.
- Conduct site orientations, toolbox talks, and safety inspections on a regular basis.
- Report and document all incidents, near-misses, and corrective actions promptly.
- Coordinate third-party testing, inspections, and environmental controls as required.
4. Communication & Leadership
- Lead daily and weekly coordination meetings with subcontractors, trades, and project staff.
- Communicate project goals, priorities, and expectations clearly to all on-site personnel.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager and Coordinator to resolve design issues, RFIs,
and conflicts in a timely manner.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff and site coordinators to promote professional development.
- Maintain a professional relationship with clients, consultants, and inspectors, representing the company with integrity.
5. Closeout & Project Turnover
- Coordinate and manage the completion of deficiencies, ensuring quality and timely closeout.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and warranty documentation.
- Support the Project Manager and Coordinator during final inspections, occupancy, and handover.
- Ensure that the site remains organized, secure, and compliant through project completion and warranty phases.
Key Attributes / Competencies
- Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage multiple trades, consultants, and site personnel.
- Thorough understanding of construction methods, building systems, and sequencing across all disciplines.
- Comprehensive knowledge of OHSA requirements and best practices for site safety and environmental compliance.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills with proficiency in site management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents with accuracy.
- Proactive problem-solver with the ability to anticipate and mitigate field challenges before they impact schedule or budget.
- Committed to teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement in site operations.
Pay: $43.00-$47.00 per hour
