Duties:

- Attend scheduled sessions to role model and offer introductory Hul'qumi'num' language training and associated cultural teachings and protocols to students, staff, and community members.
- Collaborate with library faculty to organize the nature of engagement with participants during sessions.
- Participate in, and support, the use of Hul'qumi'num' language during Library activities including: gatherings and departmental meetings.
- Help the Library cultivate and deepen reciprocal recognition and respectful relationships with Hul'qumi'num' language speakers in local communities for the purpose of building additional language supports and contributing to the strengthening of responsible and relevant relationships.
- The successful candidate may also participate in sharing language and related teachings with other areas on campus based on invitation,



preference, and availability.

Required Qualifications:

- High School Diploma.
- Post-secondary training from an appropriately accredited institution.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Hul'qumi'num' language and language teaching strategies.
- Demonstrated experience working closely with Elders and Knowledge Keepers in community.
- Demonstrated experience working with youth and Hul'qumi'num' language.
- Understanding of local Indigenous pedagogies and ethics.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a general discipline from an appropriately accredited institution.

Preference will be given to candidates with Aboriginal ancestry and an understanding and awareness of Indigenous people on Vancouver Island and local protocols. Previous experience in a post-secondary setting.
