The Opportunity

The City of St. John’s Recreation Division is currently seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and energetic individual, who enjoys working with the public, to teach Painting programs.

Accountabilities

Adult Program Instructors must be comfortable planning, developing and implementing program instruction to adults in a group setting. They will be required to have a specific content plan developed prior to the start of classes and perform in a direct leadership capacity to deliver weekly programs. Adult Program Instructors are required to request and maintain the necessary supplies required for the program, and compile and monitor attendance of participants The successful applicant will be required to participate in all training programs applicable to this position and other related work.

Qualifications

•Recognized training/experience in painting instruction

•Experience using acrylic, oil and water-based paints

•Experience in teaching painting programs. Experience in teaching in a group setting would be an asset

•Excellent communication skills

•Experience working with adult populations would be an asset

•Formal education with diploma/certificate/degree would be an asset

Additional Requirements:

•Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Record Screening Certificate AND Vulnerable Sector Check (or equivalent) – dated within six months prior to start date

•Successful applicant would be expected to have the specific lesson plan content developed prior to the start of employment.

Physical Requirements

This position requires physical agility and stamina to carry out required duties.

Hours of Work

Program Schedule: Mondays – 1:30pm – 3:30pm

Period of Employment:

September 2026-June 2027
