Management.Operational planning and management (continued)

- Monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the organization to maintain or improve quality, by ensuring that shelves are fully stocked, seasonal inventories are rotated in a timely fashion, floor items are properly displayed, and that merchandise displays are orderly, neat and tidy
- Develop, implement and monitor sales and marketing strategies
- Assess store needs and daily activities that would increase sales.
- Organize marketing events to increase consumer base
- Review product pricing of displayed items to ensure pricing consistency,
- Contribute to and lead as required, the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projects

Human resources planning and management

- Determine staffing requirements of retail operations
- Oversee the application of the human resources policies, procedures and practices for all retail staff
- Establish a positive, healthy and protected work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations
- Recruit, interview and recommend for higher approval as required, staff that have the right technical and personal abilities to help further the objectives of the retail operation
- Undertake activities that will attract and help recruit volunteers
- Ensure that all staff and volunteers receive an orientation to the organization and that appropriate training is provided
- Assign employee hours of work and input and approve daily hours that are worked.
- Maintain accurate employee leave records (attendance, absenteeism, vacations,



other leave)
- Implement as directed by the Retail Manager, a performance management process for retail staff which includes monitoring the performance of staff on an on-going basis and conducting an annual performance review
- Coach and mentor staff as appropriate to improve performance
- Recommend to the Retail Manager, disciplinary measures for staff when necessary, using appropriate techniques
- Supervising the work of subordinate staff directly and through team leaders
- Recognize exemplary performance by employees

Financial planning and management

- In collaboration with the Retail Manager and Administration Clerk, maintain a verifiable system for receiving, tabulating and banking cash and other cash equivalent receipts.
- Prepare and deposit store receipts at the bank on a daily basis
- Ensure that assigned financial reports balance
- Ensure that revenue expectations are met.

Community relations/advocacy

- Respond effectively and promptly to customer enquiries, suggestions and complaints by telephone, email or in person as appropriate

Risk management

- Identify and evaluate the risks to the organization's people (clients, staff, management, volunteers), property,



finances, goodwill, and image and recommend to the Retail Manager, measures to control risks

Qualifications

Education and Experience

- Post secondary education in a related field (Business Administration, Accounting, Marketing) (Desirable, non-essential, but manager must be willing and able to upgrade within a reasonable time period as determined by the employer)
- 2 or more years of progressive supervisory/management experience in an organization
- Experience of working in a thrift store environment an asset

- None

Knowledge, skills and abilities

- Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/voluntary organizations
- Knowledge of all federal and provincial legislation applicable to voluntary sector organizations including: employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, charities, taxation, CPP, EI, health coverage etc…
- Knowledge of human resources management
- Knowledge of financial management
- Knowledge of project management
- Bilingualism (English/French) an asset
