Our client is an innovative technology company specializing in advanced monitoring solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure. Through industry-leading hardware, software, and data management services, the organization helps utilities and municipalities improve asset performance, reduce environmental risk, and make informed, data-driven decisions.
With an established international presence and ambitious growth plans in Canada, the company is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to expand its market presence and build strategic relationships across the water sector.
Position Summary The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving business growth throughout Canada by identifying new opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, and promoting innovative monitoring solutions to municipalities, utilities, engineering consultants, and other key stakeholders.
Reporting to the leadership team, this role combines business development, client relationship management, and market strategy to support the organization's continued expansion in the Canadian market. Regular travel throughout Canada will be required.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Market Growth
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within municipal, utility, and engineering consulting sectors.
- Develop and execute regional business development strategies to achieve revenue and growth objectives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers, industry partners, and regulatory stakeholders.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, networking events, and technical forums.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities within the Canadian water and wastewater sector.
Sales & Commercial Management
- Achieve established sales targets and contribute to long-term business growth.
- Prepare and deliver compelling proposals, quotations, presentations, and responses to Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and tenders.
- Develop business cases that demonstrate the value of the company's solutions to prospective clients.
- Collaborate with internal teams to support commercial strategies, including data analytics and digital service offerings.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the sales process.
- Build trusted relationships with municipalities, utilities, consulting engineers, contractors, and industry associations.
- Provide regular updates to senior leadership regarding sales performance, market trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining long-term client relationships.
Operational Collaboration
- Coordinate with technical and operations teams to support successful project implementation.
- Assist with the deployment of monitoring solutions and ensure customer requirements are met.
- Support local partners and service providers to ensure efficient delivery of products and services.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Canadian industry standards, regulations, and certifications.
Health & Safety The successful candidate is expected to comply with all company health and safety policies, procedures,
and applicable provincial and federal legislation. This includes taking reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others, reporting hazards promptly, and promoting a safe working environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 4 years of business development or sales experience with a proven track record of achieving growth targets.
- Strong knowledge of the Canadian water and wastewater industry, including municipalities, utilities, and consulting engineering firms.
- Established network of industry contacts across Canada is considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated success in developing strategic client relationships and identifying new business opportunities.
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Robust analytical and strategic thinking abilities with the capacity to evaluate market opportunities and develop effective sales strategies.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong business acumen and commercial awareness.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems is an asset.
- Valid Canadian driver's licence with the ability to travel extensively throughout Canada.
