Our client is seeking a Senior .NET Software Developer to join a collaborative technology team on a 6-month contract engagement. This role will play a key part in the development, enhancement, and support of a critical internal business application that enables transportation operations, including rail logistics, fleet management, and financial reconciliation processes.
Working closely with technical leadership and business stakeholders, the successful candidate will leverage modern Microsoft technologies to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions. This position offers a hybrid work workplace with flexibility for work from home while supporting a team based in Calgary.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise web applications using C#, ASP.NET Blazor, and Entity Framework.
- Collaborate with technical leads, business stakeholders, and project team members to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Develop high-quality, scalable, and maintainable application features supporting transportation, logistics, and operational workflows.
- Design, build, and optimize SQL Server databases, ensuring strong performance, security, and data integrity.
- Develop and maintain database schemas, stored procedures, views, and data access layers.
- Implement modern front-end functionality using Blazor, HTML, and CSS to deliver responsive and intuitive user experiences.
- Integrate applications with Microsoft Azure services for hosting, authentication, storage, monitoring, and security.
- Utilize Azure DevOps for source control management, sprint planning, backlog tracking, and deployment processes.
- Participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, stand-ups, code reviews, and retrospectives.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application issues, performance bottlenecks, and production defects.
- Create and maintain technical documentation,
deployment procedures, and support materials.
- Apply software design patterns and object-oriented programming principles to ensure long-term maintainability.
- Conduct unit testing and support system testing efforts to ensure application quality and reliability.
- Recommend improvements to architecture, coding standards, security, and development practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and business performance.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of skilled software development experience building enterprise-level .NET web applications.
- Strong hands-on experience developing applications using C#, ASP.NET, ASP.NET Core, and Blazor.
- Extensive experience with Entity Framework and object-relational mapping (ORM) frameworks.
- Advanced SQL Server development experience, including database design, optimization, indexing, and query tuning.
- Proven experience developing and supporting business-critical applications in production environments.
- Experience leveraging Microsoft Azure services for application deployment, hosting, storage, monitoring, and security.
- Strong knowledge of Azure DevOps, including Git source control, CI/CD practices, sprint management, and work item tracking.
- Proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript concepts, and responsive web development methodologies.
- Solid understanding of software architecture principles, object-oriented design, and common design patterns.
- Experience writing clean, maintainable, testable, and well-documented code.
- Familiarity with OWASP secure coding principles and .NET application security best practices considered a strong asset.
- Exposure to Microsoft Fabric, data engineering, data integration, or analytical platforms would be considered an asset.
- Previous experience supporting transportation, logistics, fleet management, rail operations, or supply chain applications preferred.
- Robust communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to operate effectively within a remote or hybrid team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of initiatives, work independently, and drive deliverables to completion.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Calgary-based candidates are preferred due to the hybrid work arrangement requiring onsite attendance 2–3 days per week.
- Must be willing to complete a technical coding assessment as part of the recruitment process.
