This is a 1 year contract on a hybrid work model - 3 days a week in North York office.

As a Digital Communications Specialist, you will serve as an exceptional writer and storyteller responsible for managing social media strategies, content, and campaigns. You will bring a campaign mindset aimed at growing audience engagement while upholding strong content governance, brand standards, accessibility requirements, and digital communications best practices.

Working collaboratively across multiple internal teams and external agency partners, you will monitor social media activity, analyze performance metrics, and provide strategic engagement recommendations to protect and enhance the brand's reputation.

Responsibilities

- Strategy & Content Execution: Lead the development and execution of social media strategies, campaigns, and content calendars to grow audience engagement and support brand objectives.
- Storytelling & Content Creation: Translate complex business, operational, and regulatory topics into clear, engaging, and customer-focused digital communications.
- Brand Governance & Standards: Ensure all content adheres to content governance, brand standards, accessibility requirements, and digital communications best practices.
- Stakeholder & Agency Management: Manage relationships across business units (including Customer Care, Safety, Operations, Regulatory, Legal, and Marketing) and coordinate with external support agencies or vendors as needed.
- Reputation & Issue Management: Monitor social media activity and audience sentiment to protect brand reputation; participate in the digital communications on-call rotation to support emergency response communications.
- Analytics & Performance Optimization: Analyze channel and campaign performance using traditional and AI-enabled tools to deliver insights and actionable recommendations.

Requirements

Must-Have Skills & Qualifications:





- Experience: 5 years of experience in communications, digital communications, public affairs, journalism, content strategy, or social media.
- Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Business, or a related discipline.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional command of the English language with superior written, verbal, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Digital & Analytics Expertise: Strong knowledge of social media platforms, audience engagement tactics, content performance, and digital analytics tools.
- Strategic & Critical Thinking: Sound judgment and decision-making skills, particularly in rapid-paced or reputation-sensitive situations.
- Core Competencies: Self-starter with proven ability to manage multiple priorities independently and build strong cross-functional partnerships.

Nice-to-Have Skills & Qualifications:
- Industry Experience: Background in a utility, energy, government, regulatory, public affairs, or highly regulated environment.
- Technical Savvy: Experience using AI-enabled content creation/analytics tools, web content management systems, digital advertising platforms, or marketing analytics tools.
- Specialized Communications: Prior experience with crisis communications, issues management, or agency/vendor management.
