About The

Role

Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer, the Director Finance & Controller provides strategic and operational leadership for Bethany’s accounting, financial operations, and financial planning and analysis functions within a complex continuing care and seniors' services organization, ensuring financial stewardship supports high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, and organizational sustainability. Proven success leading finance functions at the Director level or equivalent senior leadership role is required. The position emphasizes forward-looking financial analysis, accounting integrity, effective business partnership, sound financial controls, disciplined processes, and service excellence to support strategic decision-making and stewardship of organizational resources.

What You Will Do: Essential duties, responsibilities, and performance measures Financial Planning and Analysis:

Lead the development and coordination of the annual operating and capital budgets, working closely with departmental leaders. Oversee rolling forecasts, multi-year financial plans, and scenario modeling to support strategic and operational decision-making. Analyze financial and operational results to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and performance gaps. Support business cases, investment evaluations, and funding decisions through robust financial analysis.

Oversee the preparation of timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and governance bodies. Lead management discussion and analysis (MD&A;), focusing on drivers of performance and variances to plan. Ensure financial reporting aligns with internal policies, external requirements, and organizational commitments.

Financial

Operations

Oversee core financial operations including accounts payable, billing and revenue recognition, accounts receivable. Ensure accurate and compliant transaction processing and reconciliations. Implement and refine financial policies, procedures, and controls to support consistency and reliability. Compliance and Risk Management:

Responsible for the internal controls over financial reporting (ICOFR) program. Ensure compliance with legislation, agreements, and internal policies. Coordinate external audits and support audit readiness and action plans. Oversee the effective use, optimization, and continuous improvement of financial systems, notably Workday, related tools and team processes. Treasury and Cash Management:

Monitor and manage the company's cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for operations and investments. Partner with the CFO on banking relationships, cash management practices, and working capital optimization. Team Leadership and Service Excellence:

Promote Bethany's service excellence program and lead by example across the Finance department. Build, coach, and develop a high-performing team with a focus on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Establish clear performance goals for finance functions and partner with leaders across Bethany to align financial insights with operational priorities.

Qualifications Education

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration.

Professional Designation:



CPA or MBA with equivalent senior-level experience in accounting, financial planning, analysis, and financial operations. Experience

8–10+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting functions.

3+ years of experience in a senior leadership position in a finance team.

Experience leading accounting, operations and FP&A; in large organizations.

Experience working in environments with ERP and integrated financial systems (e.g. Dynamics 365, SAP, Oracle). Workday-specific experience is an asset.

Additional Essential

Skills

Extensive knowledge of accounting standards (e.g. ASPE), experience with accounting standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (NPO) an asset.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.

Strategic critical thinking and attention to detail to ensure mitigation of errors.

Ability to partner effectively with operational leaders and communicate financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.

High ethical standards with a commitment to transparency and accountability.
