Director of Health

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Health provides executive management, strategic development, planning and implementation of Health and Wellness programs. This position oversees the operation of the health department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Liaise with provincial and federal agencies, and other partner agencies.
- Advise and update the Executive Director on Health and Wellness Services matters, issues, and planning.
- Evaluate and monitor programs and strategies.
- Write and submit all necessary funding proposals.
- Report and monitor financial and program reporting ensuring activities in the programs are effectively managed.
- Provide guidance and direction to managers and staff relating to health programs in support of the objectives and aspirations of Zagimē Anishinabēk.
- Keep apprised of governmental and partner agency initiatives and planning.
- Endeavour to support Indigenous culture, language, and practices.
- Enhance the ongoing delivery of wellness services with the assistance of the Health Manager.
- Guide the development and monitor long and short-term community wellness planning.
- Oversee wellness program reviews, assessments, and reporting, such as multi-year workplans and community wellness plan.
- Strategic Planning of annual Health Services Work Plan and long term Health and Wellness Development Plans.
- Identify and secure additional sources of funding for health programs, write proposal applications, submission and implementation of same.




- Oversee and monitor the rollout and implementation of ongoing health initiatives.
- Make recommendations for amendments to complex funding agreement and negotiate such agreements.

QUALIFICATIONS: · Degree in the Social Sciences; Health Science, or an equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, and experience.

· 5 years experience management in the Health Administration field.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Ability to understand, interpret and make recommendations for amendments to complex funding agreements.

· Ability to negotiate and conclude agreements

· Possess excellent organizational and leadership skills.

· Demonstrate a personal commitment to a healthy lifestyle, free from addictive behaviours and promote community wellness.

· Maintain a high level of confidentiality.

· Possess solid organizational skills and strong team leadership

· Possess excellent written and oral communication skills

· Possess excellent time management skills.

· Knowledge of First Nation Culture and traditions.

- Experience working in First Nation schools is an asset.
- Awareness of health issues in First Nation communities is an asset.
- Must submit a pre-employment drug screening and Criminal Record Check prior to commencement of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, dependable vehicle and meet insurability requirements to operate band owned vehicles.

Pay: $100,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
