The Yellowknives Dene First Nation (YKDFN) is governed by a Chief and Council with offices in Dettah and Ndilo. YKDFN is committed to serving its people while maintaining cultural traditions, language, and stewardship of lands and resources. The Economic Development Trainee will work within this environment to build skills, knowledge and experience that support community economic development initiatives.

The Economic Development Trainee supports the implementation of the community economic development plan while gaining hands-on experience in planning, research, partnership development and community engagement. This position is designed to build capacity for future Economic Development Officers within Yellowknives Dene First Nation.

Under the supervision of the Director, Economic Development, the Trainee EDO assists with research, coordination and administrative support for economic development initiatives in Chief Drygeese Territory, particularly Dettah and Ndilǫ.

The Trainee will

· Gain exposure to community economic development processes

· Support meetings, projects and partnerships

· Learn about YKDFN governance, priorities and economic workplace

Work will include office-based tasks,



attending meetings and engaging with community members and stakeholders. This position is located in Dettah, with frequent travel to Ndilǫ and Yellowknife as required.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

· Recent graduate or current student in business, economics, or a related field; OR

· Combination of education, training and lived/community experience

· Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and private vehicle.

A detailed for this position is available upon request. This position has an hourly rate range of $32.50 to $37.00. Compensation will be calculated based on the successful candidate’s related work experience and education. YKDFN offers an additional Northern Travel Allowance, comprehensive group insurance and pension benefits.
