Grant Research & Writing Intern

Fall 2026 September 1 - December 4, 2026 Academic internship for students seeking school credit through real-world nonprofit experience. Open to students 18+ enrolled in a college or university internship program. Students with specific hour or scheduling requirements are welcome to note their availability in the application.

Location: Remote

Hours: 8-15 hours/week, flexible based on school requirements

Languages: English required, Spanish strongly preferred About HMA

Hopeless Music Academy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing tuition-free music and music business education to under-resourced youth ages 12-17 in Los Angeles, at zero cost to students and families. What You'll Gain

Hands-on experience researching and writing real grant applications for a growing nonprofit

Portfolio-building work you can point to in future development or nonprofit roles





Expanded network in LA's nonprofit and music industry space Objective

Build practical skills in grant prospect research, proposal writing, and nonprofit fundraising strategy within a small, fast-moving organization.

Responsibilities May Include

Research grant opportunities aligned with HMA's mission and eligibility

Draft and edit grant application materials and supporting documents

Track application deadlines, requirements, and reporting obligations

Support broader fundraising outreach (donors, sponsors) as needed

Help prepare board meeting materials related to fundraising capacity

Provide general administrative support as needed Qualifications

Robust written communication skills in English

Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable with independent research

Comfortable in a small, fast-moving startup-style environment

Familiarity with Google Workspace
