Overview The Interventional /CT/Xray Technologist is a Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT[R]) who performs and assists with interventional radiology and angiographic procedures, ensuring safe, high quality, patient centred care. The technologist works collaboratively with radiologists, nurses, and allied health professionals to deliver accurate imaging, maintain sterile technique, and support efficient patient throughput. The technologist performs a variety of technical procedures in CT and radiography thatwill require a certain amount of independent judgment.

May be involved in some teaching of students in the practical aspect of Interventional Radiography, Radiography and CT.

Technical

Perform diagnostic and interventional procedures including angiography, vascular access, biopsies, drain insertions, and image guided procedures.

Prepare and maintain sterile fields; ensure proper equipment setup and safe operation of IR imaging systems.

Administer contrast media as permitted under CMRITO standards; obtain informed consent when required.

Monitor patient status, comfort, and safety throughout procedures; assist with positioning and vital sign monitoring.

Optimize image quality and ensure accurate documentation of procedure details.

Manage electronic imaging systems and ensure proper archiving and transfer of images.

Perform routine equipment checks and coordinate maintenance needs.

Work closely with radiologists, residents, fellows, and nursing staff to support seamless procedure flow.

Support patient/family centred care and uphold hospital safety policies.

Contribute to departmental quality improvement initiatives, policy updates, and staff training.

Produces radiographs and diagnostic CT scans, providing protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards and using correct immobilization devices.

Must have a sound understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology so that independent selection and modification of technical factors will produce optimum results.

Assists in performing first aid/CPR, if necessary.

Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross-contamination.

Assists radiologists and specialists in procedures in CT and special procedures room.

Assists with sterile procedures.

Responsible for self-evaluation.

Obtains informedconsent from patient or Substitute Decision Maker (SDM).

Starts IV's on patients and injects contrast media according to protocol. IV insertion certification required

Verifies Lab Work on patient as required.

Practices good infection control and prevention including thorough hand hygiene.

Performs quality control/quality assurance on equipment as required

Produce radiographs, providing protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards and using correct immobilization devices.



A sound understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology so that independent selection of technical factors will produce optimum results

Position and transfer patients. C-spine trauma transfer

Select and operate equipment as directed, including the operating room and at the bedside using the mobile units, developing film by automatic and manual processing as required. May share responsibility for specific areas of instruction with students in the school of radiographyand auxiliary personnel.

Assist in performing first aid if necessary.

Assist physician in the administration of opaque media; also practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination and assists radiologist, specialists or interns and residents in certain more specialized areas.

When on duty, is responsible for the related procedures.

May be required to work in BMD, Mammography

Performs other duties as required Non-technical Maintains appropriate records as directed.

May be required to monitor patient bookings.

Teaches and evaluates students of the Radiological Technology Program in the basic aspects of CT.

Maintains occupational health and safety standards in designated areas.

Assists in the use of a variety of equipment.

Rotates within the department and other departments and by shift as required

Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the Department.

Shows courtesy and compassion towards staff, patients and visitors to the hospital.

Maintains ethical standards and follows confidentiality standards established by the hospital.

Adheres to all hospital policies as described in policy manuals.

Keeps up-to-datewith latest advances in the field of CT scanning.

Teaches and evaluates radiography technologists on non-contrast CT head examinations

Orientates, teaches and evaluates new CT technologists

Notifies senior technologist or delegate of any equipment issues

Ensures all paperwork is completed and scanned as required.

Notifies PACS team of any image transfer images and completes appropriate forms

Completes all mandatory iLearn education and in-services

Communicates effectively with the patient, visitors and all members of the health team to facilitate and coordinate quality patientcare.

Ensures patient comfort and safety within the Department of Diagnostic Imaging.





May be required to assume responsibility of the designated area in the absence of the Senior Technologist Education Satisfactory completion of formal radiography training in an approved Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (C.A.M.R.T.) training school or equivalent

Registration with the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario(C.M.R.T.O.)

Advanced knowledge/education in anatomy and physiology, including cross-sectional anatomy preferred Qualifications Minimum 2 years CT Technologist experience in the last three years preferred

Interventional Radiology and CT procedure experience strongly preferred

Demonstrated ability to function in a skilled and courteous manner

Demonstrated organizational skills

Demonstrated ability to take initiative within scope of responsibility

Must be available to work evenings, on-call & statutory holidays

Good work and attendance record required.
