Galt Metal Fabrication is seeking a detail-oriented Junior Estimator to join our Division 05 (Metals) team. You will learn to analyze architectural drawings, calculate material take-offs, and help prepare competitive bids for structural steel and miscellaneous metals. This role is a perfect entry point for someone looking to build a career in construction estimating and metal fabrication.
Key Responsibilities
- Blueprints: Read and interpret structural and architectural blueprints.
- Take-offs: Perform accurate material take-offs for Division 05 metals.
- Data Entry: Input material quantities into estimating software and spreadsheets.
- Vendor Pricing: Gather quotes from raw material suppliers and specialty subcontractors.
- Scope Review: Assist in reviewing project specifications to define the scope of work.
- Bid Prep:
Help compile final bid packages and proposals for clients.
- Teamwork: Collaborate with project managers, detailers, and shop staff.
Qualifications
- Education: Diploma or degree in Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 0–2 years of experience in construction estimating (metal fabrication exposure is a plus).
- Skills: Robust mathematical, analytical, and spatial reasoning skills.
- Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Bluebeam Revu or CAD is an asset.
- Traits: High attention to detail, strong organization, and clear communication skills.
