Job Duties Job Duties/Qualifications, Skills and Abilities(QSA) Job Duties The laboratory technologist provides support and assistance for staff and students by ensuring labs are prepared for staff and ready for quality student learning. Duties will include all aspects of lab set up, specimen acquisition and preparation and lab take down.
Duties may also include installation, setup, as well as calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and arranging for repair of lab equipment.
The successful applicant will recommend the purchase of capital, materials, and supplies, maintain inventories and required documentation, keep informed of changes in laboratory practices, material and equipment. The laboratory technologist will be aware of workplace hazards and participate in establishing and enforcing safe work practices in the laboratory. Some travel may be required.
Provide support and assistance for staff and students by ensuring labs are prepared for staff and ready for quality student learning
Prepare all aspects of lab set up, specimen acquisition and preparation and lab take down.
Perform installation, setup, as well as calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and arranging for repair of lab equipment.
Performs radiology duties and radiology lab set-up where required.
Recommend the purchase of capital, materials, and supplies, maintain inventories and required documentation, keep informed of changes in laboratory practices, material and equipment.
Recognize workplace hazards,
participate in establishing secure work practices in the laboratory and oversee all individuals in the laboratory to ensure compliance.
Oversee students and future applicants in classroom, clinical, labs, tours, etc.
Travel may be required. Qualifications, Skills, Abilities And Experience Specific Accountabilities Duties Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA) Degree or Diploma in Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT).
Current licensure with the applicable national and/or provincial regulatory body.
Two years of recent and relevant clinical experience as a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist.
Driver’s License Class 5
Experience in the use and maintenance of equipment and medical laboratory analyzers
Knowledge of laboratory safety, emergency response procedures, dangerous goods handling, and biohazard waste disposal.
Knowledge of laboratory equipment and supply vendors.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, faculty, and supervisors.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
