Role Description The Public Relations Strategist is a full-time, on-site role based in Ottawa, ON. This position is responsible for developing and executing PR strategies that support clients’ public affairs and reputation-building objectives, including planning campaigns that integrate media outreach, digital channels, and stakeholder engagement. Day-to-day activities include drafting press releases and media materials, coordinating interviews and briefings, and managing relationships with journalists and influencers.
The strategist will monitor news and policy developments, identify opportunities for client visibility, and advise on strategic communications that align with political and public opinion landscapes. The role also involves collaborating closely with internal creative, research,
and account teams to ensure messaging is cohesive across advertising, social media, and public communications initiatives.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong Public Relations and Media Relations skills, including experience managing press inquiries and cultivating relationships with key outlets.
Candidates should possess Strategic Communications and Press Releases expertise, including the ability to craft clear narratives, key messages, and timely announcements.
Candidates should possess excellent Communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences and stakeholders.
Experience planning and executing integrated public affairs or advocacy campaigns, ideally within political, government, or issue-based contexts.
Proven ability to analyze media, public opinion, and policy trends to inform strategic recommendations for clients.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple accounts and deadlines in a quick-paced environment.
Comfort collaborating with creative, digital, and research teams to align PR strategies with broader campaign objectives.
Post-secondary education in communications, public relations, political science, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Experience working with Canadian media and familiarity with the Canadian political and public policy environment are considered assets.
