Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior GIS Systems Tester / QA to support the VertiGIS Application Upgrade Program for the Ontario Public Service (OPS). The successful candidate will lead quality assurance and testing activities for the modernization of enterprise GIS infrastructure and applications as part of a multi-year initiative to upgrade business-critical Geocortex applications to the latest VertiGIS platform. The project involves validating upgraded GIS applications, infrastructure modernization, enterprise integrations, accessibility compliance, and overall system quality while ensuring alignment with GO-ITS standards, enterprise governance, and service delivery requirements.

To support the priorities of the Government of Ontario under the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025 (Bill 5), resources may be assigned to Bill 5-related projects or initiatives as required.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement comprehensive testing strategies for enterprise GIS applications and infrastructure modernization projects.

Prepare detailed test plans, test cases, test scripts, test data, and testing documentation.

Execute functional, regression, system integration, end-to-end, performance, load, stress, and non-functional testing.

Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) planning, coordination, execution, and issue resolution.

Validate upgraded VertiGIS applications and enterprise GIS infrastructure to ensure functional equivalency with legacy Geocortex applications.

Perform testing for enterprise GIS integrations involving ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Online, geo processing services, and enterprise geospatial data.

Collaborate with project managers, business analysts, developers, infrastructure teams, and testing leads throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Identify, document, track,



and resolve software defects while ensuring high-quality deliverables.

Develop automated test scripts where appropriate and recommend suitable testing tools and methodologies.

Ensure applications comply with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards and accessibility best practices.

Support production deployments, validation activities, and post-implementation testing.

Extensive experience testing Esri GIS-based applications, including:

Experience supporting enterprise GIS infrastructure modernization and application upgrade initiatives.

Hands-on programming experience with:

Knowledge of enterprise GIS architecture, geospatial services, and object-oriented application environments.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with VertiGIS Studio and legacy Geocortex applications.

Experience testing Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) applications.

Knowledge of Information Management principles and enterprise data governance.

Experience developing automated testing frameworks and scripts.

Experience with SQL and data validation techniques.

Familiarity with enterprise infrastructure modernization projects.

Experience working within large-scale enterprise GIS environments.

Public Sector Experience

Experience working within the Ontario Public Service (OPS) or broader public sector environments.

Knowledge of GO-ITS standards, enterprise governance, and architecture gating processes.

Experience supporting multi-disciplinary government project teams.

Understanding of public sector project delivery methodologies and compliance requirements.
