Job Summary The Shunt Truck Operator will support the Shop, Dock and Maintenance Teams by efficiently moving trailers and trucks in and out of the Portage Transport shop bays. This role involves performing thorough pre-trip inspections to identify maintenance needs, fueling reefers, and assisting the shop team in optimizing their workflow while fostering a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Shunting and Driving:

- Move trailers and trucks in and out of the shop, and as directed by shop technicians.

Pre-Trip Inspections:

- Conduct full pre-trip inspections of all equipment, including:

- Checking reefer fluid levels

- Verifying ABS lights and 6-pump air brakes

- Inspecting side fairings, air ride systems, airlines, hoses, and air brakes

- Examining wheel nuts, treads, hubs, slack adjusters, brake linings, and oil leaks

- Ensuring the 5th wheel pin and locking pins on trailers are secure

- Checking for trailer defects, holes, corrosion on springs, and proper tire inflation system operation

- Confirming the license plate is secure

Reefer Maintenance:

- Inspect and fuel reefers to prevent operational disruptions.





- Perform electronic pre-trip checks to ensure sensors and critical reefer functions are operational, preventing costly on-road repairs.

Daily Yard Checks:

- · Conduct routine yard inspections, report any identified issues, and learn to perform minor repairs.

Additional Duties:

- Support the Dock and Maintenance team with other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

- Proven experience operating shunt trucks and handling trailers.

- Strong understanding of pre-trip inspection procedures and equipment maintenance.

- Ability to work collaboratively in a rapid-paced environment.
