Painter Growth

Canada

Painter Growth · Remote (Canada) · Full-time · $80,000-$105,000 CAD Contractors run real businesses. Painting crews, invoices, cash flow, a team to manage, and usually no time to deal with clunky software. Our mission is to build software that actually runs their business for them: the numbers, the coaching insights, the day-to-day, all in one place.

This isn't a demo or a mockup. Contractors log in every day and make real decisions with what we build. You'll help build that software, and you'll be close enough to the people using it to see it happen.

You ship a feature, a contractor uses it, you hear about it, you improve it. Days, not quarters.

This is not an entry-level role. We're looking for 2 to 4 years of production experience, a computer science degree, and something you've already shipped to real users. If that's you, keep reading. Who we are

Painter Growth builds the operating system for contractor businesses. We started in coaching for painting contractors, and we've grown into bookkeeping through IronBooks and the software that ties both together. Thousands of coaching calls and hundreds of live contractor businesses feed directly into what we build.

We're small, high-output, and AI-native. The founder writes his own code every day using Claude Code and Cursor. We ship weekly, and Ironbooks is scaling fast toward 1,000+ active clients who depend on this software to run their day.

The role

This isn't building software and throwing it over a wall. You ship a feature, then get on a call or a message thread with the contractor using it. You hear where it's confusing, where it saves them time, and where it breaks.

Then you fix it and ship again. Full cycle means the code and the customer both belong to you. You'll own features end to end: design the data model, build the UI, wire it to Supabase, ship it on Vercel.

Watch how it gets used. Talk to the people using it. Iterate on what you hear, not what you guess. What you'll do

Own features end to end: schema design in Postgres, API routes in Next.js, UI in React and Tailwind, deployed by you on Vercel

Ship every week. What you build goes live fast, and contractors are using it within days

Talk directly to the people using what you build: feedback calls, support threads, watching them click around live

Write and tune SQL against a growing production database, not just call an ORM and hope

Build and maintain Supabase auth and row-level security so client data stays properly scoped

Fix what breaks. Harden pipelines, crons, and integrations as usage climbs

Build with AI as your default tool, not a novelty.

Claude

Code, Cursor, whatever ships it correctly and fast Our stack

React · Next.js (App Router) · TypeScript · Tailwind CSS · Supabase (Postgres / Auth / RLS) · Vercel · GitHub · Claude API What you need to have

2 to 4 years of professional software engineering experience. Real jobs,

not just coursework A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical field

Hands-on SQL and Postgres experience.

Specific

Supabase experience is a strong plus

Robust React and JavaScript/TypeScript skills, used in production, not just tutorials

Something you've built that has actual users right now, or has had them. A side project, a startup, freelance work. Show us

You already build with AI tools like Claude Code or Cursor as part of your daily workflow. This isn't optional for us

Comfortable getting on a call with a customer and actually listening, not just talking to teammates

Based in Canada, able to overlap with our team's working hours Nice to have

Next.js App Router specifically, not just Pages Router

Experience in fintech, SaaS, or another small business software tool

You've worked directly with a founder, or on a team of 10 or fewer

You care about the trades, small business owners, or non-technical end users Why this role

You'll watch contractors use what you built within days, not quarters

You're building next to a founder who ships his own code daily and talks to customers just as often

Small team means your calls on architecture and product actually stick

You're joining before the team scales further. More influence now than you'll get later How to apply

Send your resume, your GitHub, and a link to something you've built that real people use. Tell us in two sentences what it does and why you built it. If you used AI tools to build it, tell us how. Must be native English speaker located in Canada
