About The Role Ring is seeking a highly skilled Software Development Engineer to join the Persistent Connection Service team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the core socket services that facilitate device connectivity for millions of Ring devices around the world. You will work closely with cross-functional teams across software, firmware, and product domains, utilizing AWS technologies to address complex distributed systems challenges.

This service is vital for enabling real-time, two-way communication between devices and the Ring Cloud, processing billions of messages daily. Your contributions will directly impact the availability, latency, and resilience of our connectivity infrastructure, ensuring seamless operation and security of Ring’s ecosystem. Qualifications 5+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship)

Proficiency in at least one programming language used in backend development

Experience in designing and architecting reliable, scalable systems

Previous experience as a technical lead, mentor, or in a leadership role within engineering teams

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent

Experience with distributed systems, fault tolerance,



and high-throughput backend services

Knowledge of AWS services and cloud-based architecture

Familiarity with software development lifecycle including code reviews, source control, testing, and deployment Responsibilities Design and implement high-performance backend services supporting millions of devices with strict uptime requirements

Create extensible data models and services that form the foundation for device connectivity and internal ecosystems

Establish and promote engineering best practices to ensure technical excellence across the team

Architect fault-tolerant, scalable distributed systems leveraging AWS cloud services

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate complex business needs into robust technical solutions that improve user experience and security

Lead operational initiatives including monitoring, alerting, automated testing, and incident response to maintain service reliability
