Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role located in Port Coquitlam, BC for a Steel Detailer / Shop Drawing Technician specializing in structural steel and miscellaneous metals. The role involves preparing accurate and detailed shop drawings for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and related components in accordance with engineering designs, architectural drawings, and project specifications. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting design and construction documents, modeling steel structures, coordinating details with engineers, fabricators, and contractors, and ensuring drawings are complete, transparent, and compliant with applicable codes and standards.
The Steel
Detailer / Shop Drawing Technician will review and revise drawings based on feedback, maintain organized project documentation,
and support efficient fabrication and installation through precise detailing and proactive communication with the project team.
Responsibilities
Prepare detailed shop drawings for guardrails, handrails, stairs, ladders, canopies, and miscellaneous steel.
Interpret architectural and structural drawings and specifications.
Produce fabrication drawings, installation drawings, and material take-offs.
Review project documents and identify drawing conflicts or discrepancies.
Revise drawings based on engineer, architect, and client comments.
Coordinate with engineers, fabricators, project managers, and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
Maintain drawing revisions and document control.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of drafting or detailing experience.
Proficiency in Tekla and AutoCAD (required).
Experience preparing miscellaneous metals or structural steel shop drawings.
Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
Experience with Bluebeam Revu would be an asset.
Knowledge of the NBCC, BC Building Code, and CSA S16 is an asset.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
