We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our team in Montreal and take ownership of the build, release, and deployment infrastructure for an Unreal Engine project. This role is focused on creating reliable and maintainable CI/CD workflows for an Unreal Engine-based product distributed across Windows and macOS. You will work closely with developers, QA, IT, and production teams to improve build stability, automate Unreal Engine build and release processes, and make software delivery faster and more predictable.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with modern CI/CD systems, understands the platform-specific challenges of shipping desktop applications, and is comfortable investigating issues across build systems, operating systems, permissions, networking, and deployment infrastructure.
Requirements
- Strong professional experience in DevOps, build engineering, release engineering, or a similar role.
- Solid knowledge of common CI/CD concepts, tools, and practices.
- Experience designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated build and deployment pipelines.
- Experience supporting build and release pipelines for large C++ projects or game-engine-based applications.
- Strong understanding of Windows environments, including services, permissions, users, groups, domains, authentication, and system configuration.
- Practical experience with macOS build and release workflows.
- Understanding of macOS application signing, notarization, certificates, provisioning, packaging, and automated publishing.
- Experience automating software builds, packaging, versioning, artifact management, and deployment.
- Good scripting skills in Python.
- Basic knowledge of C# and the ability to understand, troubleshoot, or make small changes to existing code and build tooling.
- Familiarity with source control systems and branching workflows, preferably Git.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals, access control, credentials management, and secure handling of secrets.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to investigate problems across multiple systems.
- Ability to work independently, communicate technical issues clearly, and drive improvements from investigation through implementation.
Responsibilities
- Design, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines for development, testing, packaging, and release workflows.
- Support automated builds and deployments across Windows and macOS environments.
- Maintain and improve Unreal Engine build, packaging, cooking, and release automation.
- Maintain and improve macOS code-signing, notarization, packaging, and publishing processes.
- Automate repetitive build, release, deployment, and infrastructure tasks using Python and other appropriate tools.
- Investigate and resolve build failures, deployment issues, environment inconsistencies, permission problems, and release blockers.
- Manage build agents, runners, development infrastructure, and related tooling.
- Improve build reliability, execution time, observability, and failure reporting.
- Maintain artifact storage, dependency management, versioning, and release traceability.
- Work with developers to make projects easier to build, test, package, and deploy.
- Collaborate with QA and production teams to support reliable and repeatable releases.
- Document infrastructure, deployment processes, operational procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Identify risks and technical debt within the delivery pipeline and propose practical improvements.
- Contribute to security best practices related to credentials, certificates, permissions, secrets, and access management.
Nice to have
- Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or another major cloud platform.
- Hands-on experience with Unreal Engine build systems, including BuildCookRun, Unreal Automation Tool, Unreal Build Tool, cooking, packaging, and command-line automation.
- Previous experience in the video game industry.
- Understanding of Unreal Engine development workflows, including large repositories, binary assets, Derived Data Cache, platform-specific builds, build configurations, and frequent development iterations.
- Experience with C#/.NET build tooling and dependency management.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Experience with containers and container orchestration.
- Familiarity with mobile CI/CD practices, including automated testing, internal distribution, TestFlight, Google Play testing tracks, and release management.
- Experience with mobile projects and automated build and release workflows for iOS and Android, including code signing, provisioning, certificate and keystore management, packaging, versioning, artifact distribution, and publishing through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
- Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.
- Experience supporting distributed build systems or optimizing large, resource-intensive builds.
- Familiarity with console, mobile, or other platform certification and release processes.
- Experience managing Apple Developer accounts, signing identities, certificates, and automated credential rotation.
- Experience with Perforce Helix Core, Git LFS, or other source-control workflows commonly used for large Unreal Engine projects.
