This is a hybrid position; therefore, you must reside in Victoria, BC at the time of hire.

Smart Dolphins is a Victoria IT provider that has worked with businesses across Vancouver Island for 26 years. The team runs as a close group we call the Pod, and that culture is a large part of how the work gets done.

Poplar is our newer venture, a young consulting practice helping small and mid-sized businesses get real value from AI and Microsoft 365. It is early days by design, and the right person will see that as the appeal: a chance to build expertise in an emerging field from the ground up.

This role spans both companies. You would join the Pod and start with Smart Dolphins clients, learning how our typical client businesses run, then move into Poplar delivery over your first year. That early time inside the MSP is a deliberate way in.

The work itself is client-facing, business first and technology second. The focus is the outcome, not a fixed set of tools. Sometimes that means helping a team use what they have better. Sometimes it means recommending the right new tooling, whether that is AI, Microsoft 365 licensing, or something else. Depending on the engagement, you might advise and hand off, or own the recommendation through to a decision.

You do not need to arrive fully formed. We care more about instinct and how you work with people than about a polished résumé, and we will develop the rest. Whoever takes this role will help shape how we deliver and how we work with clients.

What you would do:

- Learn how clients operate and how they use their tools, starting inside Smart Dolphins
- Figure out what a client's work actually needs, then recommend the right tools, whether that means using what they have better or bringing in new AI or Microsoft 365 capability
- Lead clients through adopting AI in their daily work, moving them from scattered experimentation to structured, reliable use
- Deliver AI Readiness Assessments and produce clear client-facing work such as readiness profiles and adoption plans
- Support onboarding, training, and adoption, including our SkillsBoost learning platform
- Facilitate workshops and training on AI, Microsoft 365, and security awareness
- Represent both Smart Dolphins and Poplar in client conversations The one thing we will not train:

Hands-on experience with AI beyond casual or personal use. You have tested its limits and built or automated things yourself, with a focus on business value over technology. Everything else on this list we can develop. This we cannot.

What else we are looking for:

We are hiring for the right ingredients, not a finished profile:

- Clear, confident communication with non-technical people
- Comfort presenting and facilitating in a group setting




- Curiosity about how people work and where technology gets in their way
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 as a user
- Organized, self-directed, and comfortable when things are not yet defined
- Humble and hungry: eager to grow, open to feedback, and not wedded to having all the answers

Nice to have:

- Experience as a key person inside a small business, where you learned firsthand what makes operations work and what does not
- Some background in training, onboarding, or change support
- Able to coach clients on good cybersecurity habits as part of training and adoption. Security expertise is not expected

This role is probably not for you if:

- Your AI experience is casual or personal only. This role needs someone who has already put it to work in a real setting
- You are mainly motivated by deep technical or infrastructure work. This is not an IT support or engineering role
- You would rather work independently with little client contact.
- You want a fully defined role from day one.

Where it goes:

The aim is for Poplar work to make up most of your role within roughly a year, with a path toward a lead consultant role for someone who earns it. Expect something more fluid than a standard career ladder, and expect us to invest in your development.
