Welcome to the City of Edmonton, where our work connects communities and builds a thriving city for everyone. We are looking for a dedicated technical leader to help guide our transportation infrastructure projects from concept to completion.

The Engineering Technologist III provides technical leadership and expertise for transportation design projects managed by the Development Engineering Drawing Review unit. In this role, you will review engineering drawings to ensure safe and efficient infrastructure while mentoring, training, and supporting junior technical staff. You will work closely with internal teams, consultants, and developers to align land development projects with municipal standards and community needs.

What will you do?

Coordinate and conduct technical reviews of engineering drawings submitted by developers, consultants, and internal partners for alignment with City standards and bylaws

Train, mentor, and support Engineering Technologists I & II, members-in-training, and new team members to foster technical growth and team success

Evaluate non-standard proposals and provide technical justifications for acceptance or rejection

Conduct field design reviews during construction to resolve site-specific issues and recommend adjustments

Facilitate solutions across various groups including consultants, utilities, and internal teams to navigate competing priorities and land development requirements

Organize and lead technical training sessions to support ongoing professional development across the unit

Utilize Google Suite and digital tools to manage workflows, track review timelines, and streamline documentation

Provide technical input toward updating City design standards, guidelines,



and policies as new technologies emerge Completion of a two-year Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institute of technology

Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in transportation design within a municipal environment

Eligibility for registration as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET) or an equivalent professional association

Assets

Minimum of 2 years of experience in an active mentoring or supervisory role

Proficiency with computer-aided design software, such as AutoCAD

Skills required for success

Deep expertise in transportation engineering principles for local, collector, and arterial roadways

Strong understanding of municipal land development processes, guidelines, and standards

Advanced technical communication skills for writing clear reports, technical evaluations, and presentations

Proven analytical and problem-solving skills to navigate complex engineering challenges tactfully

Solid leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution skills to support a collaborative team environment

High organizational efficiency to manage multiple assignments independently and meet firm deadlines

Capability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse partner groups

Proficiency in Google Workspace tools for productivity tracking, mapping, and administrative tasks

Conditions of Employment

Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toe boots, gloves, goggles, sunscreen and coveralls

Candidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) or higher. Candidates will be required to arrange their own transportation and, where appropriate, will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require the candidate to obtain business-use auto insurance

Work Environment

Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week

Salary Range: $51.611 - $65.218 (Hourly); $90,925.680 - $114,897.810 (Annually)
