Company Description: MindCheckin is an early intervention and triage platform that helps schools better support student well-being. Through confidential check-ins, students can share how they are feeling while school professionals receive insights to identify students who may benefit from additional support and prioritize timely follow-up. MindCheckin empowers schools to take a more proactive approach to student well-being in both English and French school communities.

Role Description: The Volunteer Software Developer will play a key role in bringing MindCheckin to life by transforming the existing prototype into a fully functional application. This is primarily a full-time position, although part time applicants will also be considered . The role can be completed remotely or in person in Montréal, QC.

The developer will build the platform using the existing designs, prototype, and generated code, develop both the web and iOS applications, implement the backend, database, authentication, and core features, and ensure the platform is secure, reliable, and user-friendly. They will also test and debug the application, optimize performance, deploy the web application, and publish the iOS app to the Apple App Store.

Qualifications

- Strong foundation in Computer Science and Software Development, with an understanding of algorithms, data structures, and system design.
- Proficiency in Programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), including experience with at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, C#, or JavaScript).
- Experience or interest in Back-End Web Development, including working with APIs, databases, and server-side frameworks.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, and to use version control tools (e.g., Git).
- Comfort working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, with robust communication and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to data privacy, security, and ethical handling of user information, especially in an educational and mental health context.
- Familiarity with or interest in mental health, education technology (EdTech), or school environments is an asset.
- Ability to work on-site in Montreal, QC; proficiency in English is required, and French language skills are considered an advantage.
