Job Number: 55714The City of Edmonton is looking for a dedicated professional to help ensure our community remains safe and compliant. If you are passionate about electrical safety and enjoy a mix of technical plan review and on-site inspections, this is the role for you!As an Electrical Safety Codes Officer II, you will administer provincial safety code authority duties by reviewing electrical plans and inspecting new systems or alterations in residential and commercial buildings. You will work independently to interpret regulations, audit for compliance with the Safety Codes Act and Canadian Electrical Code, and collaborate with community partners to resolve technical issues.What will you do?Review permit applications and electrical plans for compliance with bylaws, codes, and municipal standardsConduct site inspections during various construction stages to ensure alignment with approved plans and safety legislationIssue, withhold, or revoke permits based on assessment findings and ensure all deficiencies are correctedProvide technical interpretations of the Canadian Electrical Code to contractors, developers, and homeownersMaintain accurate records and input relevant data into POSSE and other management systemsIdentify safety code infractions and assess necessary repairs for structures to meet required standardsCollaborate with internal departments like Fire Rescue Services and Alberta Health Services for coordinated approvalsQualifications:Completion of the 12th school gradeJourneyman Electrician certification recognized in Alberta plus 5 years of relevant experience post-certificationORElectrical Engineering Technologist diploma plus 7 years of relevant building construction experienceORElectrical Engineering degree plus 5 years of relevant experience (with at least one year post-degree)Certification as an Electrical Group A Safety Codes Officer with the Safety Codes Council in AlbertaAssets:Experience specifically involving residential, Part 9,



and Part 3 projectsAdvanced proficiency in using POSSE or similar data management softwareSkills required for success:Analyze and interpret complex legislation, including the Safety Codes Act and Canadian Electrical CodeIdentify construction that fails to meet code intent or presents hazardous conditionsEvaluate structural stability through plan reviews and in office assessmentsReview and interpret technical designs prepared by architects and engineersCommunicate technical concepts clearly and professionally to diverse community partnersManage multiple priorities and organize tasks effectively under deadline pressureMake impartial and transparent decisions when applying safety codesCollaborate effectively as a team member or work independently with minimal supervisionAlignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ( a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusionConditions of Employment:Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toe boots, gloves, goggles, sunscreen and coverallsSuccessful candidates are able to be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this positionHire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirementCandidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) or higher. Candidates will be required to arrange their own transportation and, where appropriate,



will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy.
