THE ROLE The Specialty Instructor – Climbing Wall is responsible for the planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of indoor climbing programs for participants of varying ages and skill levels. The incumbent provides safe, engaging, and inclusive instruction in climbing techniques, equipment use, and climbing wall safety, fostering participant confidence, skill development, and enjoyment. Responsibilities include supervising climbing activities, setting and maintaining climbing routes, monitoring participant safety, responding to emergencies, and ensuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and industry safety standards. The role also includes maintaining climbing equipment and facilities, performing administrative and program-related duties, promoting recreation services, supporting participants with diverse needs, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality community recreation programs through exceptional customer service and professional instruction.

Qualifications Needed Education, Certifications and Licenses
High school diploma
Current CPR And Basic First Aid Qualifications
Current Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Operator Certificate
Current Climbing Wall Association (CWA)



Instructor Level 2 qualification, Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) Climbing Gym Instructor Level 1, or equivalent certification from a nationally recognized organization
High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development, as required

Experience Experience supervising indoor climbing activities
Experience with instructing climbing programs to children and youth
Experience with program planning and delivery
Experience with routesetting

Competencies, Skills And Abilities Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership.

Language Requirements English Essential / Bilingual an asset
