DESCRIPTION: To perform the technical functions of digital mammography and process in accordance with OBSP policies, procedures and legislated standards.
Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre strategy. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Positions patients as required in order to produce digital mammography images of maximum screening and diagnostic value with the lowest appropriate radiation dose. Assist the radiologist in performing diagnostic and localization procedures using high quality sterile techniques. Requires the selection of technical factors and digital imaging appropriate for the examination or procedure. Assesses the quality and adequacy of all images and determines the need for corrective measures and/or repeat imaging. Responsible for documenting patient exams and procedures in the patient care system, including any additional information regarding incomplete or technically unsatisfactory case.
- Performs the injection of contrast media for the purposes of contrast enhanced mammography following all safety guidelines associated with that administration.
- Provides radiation protection to self and patients within prescribed safety standards.
- Maintains a focus on patient & family centered care by introducing self to each patient, validating correct chart and explains procedure to patients. Provides opportunity for patients to ask questions and reassures patients throughout the imaging and procedure process.
- Cleans patient care surfaces and performs hygiene between each examination in order to minimize risk of infection. Inspects and cleans display monitor daily or as necessary to provide optimum imaging quality.
- Participates in quality control procedures (includes performing testing and reviewing results) in accordance with CAR-MAP accreditation standards to ensure optimum imaging quality. Reports any technology issues to the Charge Technologist.
- Participates in ongoing Quality Assurance & process improvement functions as outlined in the provincial OBSP Quality Standard Operating Procedures and KHSC’s strategic direction initiatives.
- Participates in orientation and training programs of new technical staff with regards to digital mammography equipment and procedures.
- Performs additional related duties as required.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Successful completion of a recognized course program in Medical Radiation Technology.
- Registered with College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario.
- Eligible for employment according to the CAR standards for an Accredited Breast Imaging Facility Must meet MRT-OBSP Requirements (as set by the Ontario Breast Screening Program and Cancer Care Ontario) within 24-months of moving into position or an agreed upon timeframe with the Manager, Imaging Services).
- Competency on DR mammography equipment and PACS.
- Previous Radiological Q.C. experience and/or Radiological Q.C. certificate an asset.
- CAMRT certificate in Breast Imaging preferable.
- Current B.C.L.S. certification an asset.
- Technically proficient with mammography equipment and accessories.
- Familiar with HIS/RIS and PACS systems.
- Medical terminology.
- Evidence of solid organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, work under pressure and show flexibility.
- Demonstrated ability with above average written and oral communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a high level of professionalism in interpersonal relations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Evidence of strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize; work under pressure, and show flexibility.
- Must have strong independent decision making skills with a high level of initiative.
- Discretion and maturity in handling confidential matters.
- Demonstrated computer knowledge.
- Knowledge of the HARP Act
- Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
