The Role

This post supports the lead bed manager in ensuring the efficient and safe management of beds across the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. It is a high‑pressure, fast‑moving role that requires excellent communication, strong interpersonal skills, and confident decision‑making. The position involves constant interaction with staff at all levels and adapting to the service's changing needs.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

- Full-time, permanent
- Base location: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
- Work pattern: 12‑hour rotational day and night shifts

Key Responsibilities

- Bed management — Support the lead bed manager in safe and efficient allocation of beds.
- Patient flow — Facilitate timely movement of patients through the hospital, aligned with the Continuous Flow Model.
- Emergency and urgent admissions — Prioritise placement of emergency and urgent admission requests while balancing elective activity.
- Internal transfers and repatriation — Organise transfers within the site and between hospitals.
- Cross‑department liaison — Work closely with nursing, medical staff, and management across all directorates.
- Service responsiveness — Adapt to rapidly changing operational needs.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job

- Understanding of A&E; government targets and how they influence patient flow.
- Awareness of current issues affecting timely admissions and bed availability.




- Knowledge of the Continuous Flow Model.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.
