Description

Trail crew labourers work to provide the best possible experience for guests through snow farming and snow removal across the mountain. Trail Crew Labourers participate in slope preparation and maintenance, public safety, and emergency response within their training and abilities. There is a strong focus on safety, effective communication, and teamwork to maintain a positive, efficient work environment. Trail Crew Labourers work under the direction of the Trail Crew Forepersons, Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor and work closely with all Mountain Operations departments.

Essential Functions

- Preparing and maintaining slopes by collecting snow through the establishment and maintenance of fencing.
- Clearing of snow from premises.
- Communicating effectively via radio.
- Adherence to safe work procedures and hazard assessments for all tasks within the scope of work.
- Actively participating, within scope of abilities, in avalanche rescue response and emergency response.
- Timely and accurate reporting of all incidents and deficiencies to appropriate personnel.
- Other duties may be requested and assigned from time to time.

Experience/Requirements

- Intermediate/Advanced skiing skills. Skiing for work requires completion of a competency test.
- Standard First Aid is preferred.
- Physically fit and capable of completing required job tasks.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Outgoing, positive, and friendly attitude.
- Ability to work well as part of a close-knit team.
- Prepared to work flexible schedules e.g.,



weekends, holidays, nights, extended hours.
- Calm under pressure and patient, with good time management skills.
- Maintain professional conduct when knowingly acting as a company representative on or off duty.
- Must be neat, alert, punctual and dependable.

Additional Considerations

- Employees must always be of sound mind and report to work fit for duty. The ability to exercise good judgement is essential and a key requirement of the position.
- This position requires the ability to ski for long periods of time (spending the day in ski boots is normal), constant trunk rotation, frequent lifting, pushing/pulling of equipment and tools (up to 45 kg).
- Requires working at heights, occasionally climbing ladders, ascending inclined slopes.
- There will be exposure to extreme environments (temperature and wind) and remote work.
- This role may operate machinery and complete work around moving equipment.
- Required uniform pieces (jacket, pants) are provided.
- Certain equipment must be provided by the employee in advance, and during employment:
- Alpine or Telemark downhill skis with releasable bindings
- Insulated winter boots with rubber sole
- Ski equipment used for work must be in good operating condition, meet Sunshine Village equipment requirements, and may be tested throughout the season.
- Progressive skills listed as functions for this role may not be undertaken until training is complete, skills are demonstrated, and document requirements are fulfilled.
- This role is subject to the Sunshine Employee Handbook, HR Policy Manual, and the Employment Standards Code.
