What you’ll do

- Provide engineering support for complex and smart (SMI) revenue meters throughout their lifespan, including design, construction support, asset sustainment, and end‑of‑life replacement.
- Prepare Revenue Metering planning and design estimates for transmission load customers, and generator interconnections.
- Safely design, review, and implement the installation of complex and smart revenue metering systems.
- Design and implement communication solutions for complex meter installations (cellular, satellite, VPN).
- Program and configure revenue meters (Schneider, Itron, Honeywell).
- Perform failure analysis on meters and auxiliary metering equipment.
- Develop and maintain technical standards, checklists, and engineering guidelines for meter implementation.
- Participate in technical forums and provide feedback on company‑wide initiatives, regulatory framework, and metering strategies.
- Investigate and troubleshoot metering systems and customer billing complaints.
- Provide metering support and technical guidance on customer connection projects to support designers, planners, field meter technicians.
- Provide technical support to BC Hydro transmission and distribution billing and customer service.
- Participate in the development of BC Hydro’s meter quality assurance strategy, support statistical sampling programs for meters to meet regulatory requirements, and execute compliance programs.

What you bring

- Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering discipline which is recognized by Canadian universities.
- Engineering degrees in other disciplines may be considered if the candidate has the required level of applicable experience for this position.
- Applicants with varying levels of relevant engineering experience may be considered.
- Senior position: Minimum of eight (8) years relevant engineering experience.




- Registered or eligible for immediate registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC).
- Must have and maintain a Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing.

Knowledge and understanding of:

- Power Systems: Solid understanding and experience with electrical distribution and/or transmission systems.
- Transmission metering systems and/or smart metering infrastructure.
- Auxiliary metering equipment such as current and voltage transformers.
- Familiarity or experience with utility or industrial telecommunication systems would be considered an asset.
- Familiarity or experience with federal measurement regulations (Measurement Canada) would be considered an asset.

The ability to:

- Resolve moderately complex problems independently under areas of authority and within the identified guidelines, procedures and standards.
- Drive initiatives, formulate plans and strategies. Engage internal and external stakeholders to promote an integrated long‑term planning process.
- Maintain external relationships with vendors and suppliers.
- Conduct research looking for innovative creative and sustainable solutions which contribute to achieve the targets set by BC Hydro long‑term goals and corporate strategic directions.
- Provide technical leadership on planning and design issues.

Demonstrate:

- Well‑developed leadership, planning, organizational, project management, problem solving and decision‑making skills.
- Well‑developed oral and written communication, presentation, leadership, relationship management and interpersonal skills.
- Change Management; acting as an advocate for innovation and supporting adoption of current tools and practices.
