The Overnight Respite Support Aide provides direct, in-home overnight support to a child/youth with complex medical and developmental needs, working Wednesday night through Saturday night from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. This is a temporary full-time position running from the start date through April 30, 2027, offering 36–44 hours per week. You will support the child/youth through their established overnight routine — including bedtime routine, monitoring of a CPAP/BiPAP (sleep PAP) machine, and safe, attentive overnight supervision — while maintaining accurate medication and care documentation. You will work closely with the child/youth's family, the on-call manager, and BSR's broader circle of care.

Who We're Looking For?

- Is a registered Health Care Aide (HCA), active on the Alberta HCA Registry and in good standing
- Has prior knowledge and comfort supporting a child/youth who uses a CPAP/BiPAP (sleep PAP) machine overnight
- Holds a current Medication Administration Certificate and documents accurately on a Medication Administration Record (MAR)
- Is comfortable and reliable working overnight shifts, Wednesday through Saturday night
- Is able to travel to NE Calgary for shifts
- Communicates clearly and promptly with the on-call manager regarding any overnight concerns
- Is nurturing and patient with routines like meal preparation, bathing, dressing, and bedtime stories
- Builds respectful, trust-based relationships with the child/youth's family and guardian(s)
- Documents thoroughly and efficiently using digital documentation systems
- Is committed to ongoing learning through staff meetings, professional development, and circle of care workshops

Key Responsibilities

Overnight Care & Support

- Provide attentive, trauma-informed overnight support to the child/youth in their family home, Wednesday night through Saturday night (10:00 PM – 8:00 AM)
- Support and monitor the child/youth's use of a CPAP/BiPAP (sleep PAP) machine throughout the night
- Administer medications as trained and in accordance with the child/youth's care plan




- Prepare meals/snacks, and support bathing, dressing, and personal care routines
- Read stories and support a consistent, calming, established bedtime routine
- Respond promptly and appropriately to any overnight needs, changes in condition, or emergencies

Documentation & Communication

- Accurately and efficiently complete documentation on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) sheet
- Document child/youth progress, routines, and any concerns using BSR's digital documentation systems
- Communicate directly with the on-call manager regarding overnight updates or concerns
- Complete shift handover notes clearly and thoroughly for incoming caregivers/family

Family & Team Collaboration

- Build and maintain a respectful, collaborative relationship with the child/youth's family and guardian(s)
- Work within the child/youth's home in a manner that respects family routines, values, and preferences
- Attend monthly staff meetings, professional development sessions, and circle of care workshops
- Liaise with the broader multidisciplinary care team as needed

Requirements

Qualifications & Education Required Certifications & Clearances

- Active registration as a Health Care Aide (HCA) on the Alberta HCA Registry, in good standing
- Police Information Check (completed within the last 6 months)
- Child Intervention Record Check (completed within the last 6 months)

Required Knowledge & Experience

- Prior knowledge or experience supporting a child/youth who requires a CPAP/BiPAP (sleep PAP) machine
- Comfort and accuracy documenting on a Medication Administration Record (MAR) sheet




- Experience working within or alongside multidisciplinary care teams is a solid asset
- Availability to reliably work the full overnight schedule, Wednesday through Saturday night
- Able to travel to NE Calgary for shifts

Assets (not required, but valued)

- Experience with FSCD, CFS, or DFNA-involved families
- Knowledge of or connection to Indigenous cultures, communities, or languages
- Experience working with children/youth with complex medical or respiratory needs
- Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), Mandt, or equivalent

Supporting Documentation Required

- Child Intervention Record Check (completed within the last 6 months)
- Prior experience or working knowledge of CPAP/BiPAP (sleep PAP) machine use for children/youth
- Able to travel to NE Calgary for shifts

Job Type

Temporary Full-Time (ending April 30, 2027)

$22.38 – $25.77 per hour

Ability to Commute/Relocate
