Job Description
This is a remote position. FBC is offering 1‑on‑1 mentorship with students as part of our Student Supports for Learning program.
Responsibilities
- Mentors will connect in person or virtually with youth in the program.
- Develop a relationship with mentees.
- Help a mentee develop personal and academic skills.
- Be a source of support and guidance for their mentee.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Attend mentorship training session.
Requirements
- Identify as a member of the Black or a member of a marginalized community.
- Located in Ontario.
- Prior experience as a mentor or similar experience is an asset.
- Bilingualism is an asset.
- Dependable (keeps commitments, shows up on time, follows through).
- Adaptable (shows the ability to overcome adversity in their personal and/or skilled life).
- Respectful (adheres to program and family rules, interested in learning about the experiences of others, nonjudgmental).
- Resilient (can handle common youth “testing behaviors” and is not particularly “rejection‑sensitive”).
- Are familiar with the topics being taught such as financial literacy, networking, etc.
- Vulnerable Sector Check within the last calendar year.
- Experience with being a mentor.
- Access to the FBC eco‑system amongst other opportunities.
- A gift card as a thank you for your service.
