Compensation: (Grid 21) $29.76 - $31.64

JobSummary

ThePeer Support Worker provides supportive mentorship during the recovery andcapacity-building of residents and alumni of the facilityby engaging in theirphysical and mental health needs, as well as being a bridge between residentsand other staff members. The Peer Support Worker has lived experience ofsubstance use and/or mental illness and its treatment.

Responsibilities

- Worksas a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide peer-based support andguidance to service recipients, including individual support, peer support andfacilitating peer-based recovery groups, in accordance with pre-establishedgoals and objectives.
- Supportsservice recipients using motivational and supportive self-disclosure includingthe sharing of personal recovery experiences
- Supportsskill building, goal attainment, empowerment and recovery through peermentorship
- Provides emotional support.
- Observesclients and their environments, and reports unsafe conditions and behavioural,physical, and/or cognitive changes to supervisor
- Identifiesavailable social, economic, recreational, and educational services andresources in the community that will meet clients’ needs. Provides clients withrelated information.
- Accompaniesclients on outings such as appointments, shopping, and leisure activities
- Providepractical supports including site orientation, sharing and distribution ofresource materials, assisting with the completion of forms and letters, andreceiving/documenting complaints and ideas for improved service delivery
- Providesinput to case planning and goal setting
- Meetoperational needs a required, including the safety of the building andoccupants
- Completesand maintains related records and documentation such as statistics, progressreports, and daily logs
- Practiceand encourage respects, trust, empathy, and integrity in interactions withresidents
- Developsand maintains positive and respectful relationships with co-workers and themultidisciplinary team
- Performsother related duties as required or assigned

Qualifications





- HighSchool diploma or equivalent combination of education, training and experiencesuch as a certificate in Community Social Services.
- Approximately1 year of experience, including lived experience, in recovery, recovery insubstance use or co-occurring substance use, and/or mental health issues
- Experienceleading or participating in community groups
- Experienceproviding one-on-one support in a relevant setting
- Satisfactorycompletion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening isrequired
- Satisfactorycompletion of Tuberculosis Screening form is required
- Satisfactorycompletion of Employee Immunization Record form is required
- Satisfactory completionof Nonviolent crisis intervention (NVCI)
- Firstaid certification with CPR is required
- Validdriver’s license is required
