Stelvio are working with a client operating within the transportation technology sector to appoint a Director of Finance for its Safety and Enforcement division.
Reporting to the VP of Finance, you will take responsibility for the division’s financial health, strategy and accounting operations. As a senior leader, you will provide transparent financial guidance, strengthen planning and analysis, and partner with executive stakeholders to support informed
decisions and sustainable growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead the financial close process, including journal entries for depreciation, allocations and accruals.
- Review the trial balance, identify discrepancies and make the necessary adjustments.
- Analyse budget variances and review balance sheet and profit and loss accounts to ensure accurate financial statements.
- Maintain and interpret a complete set of financial statements covering cash flow, accounts payable, accounts receivable and inventory.
- Identify and assess cost-reduction opportunities across the division and wider business.
- Provide financial analysis to support contract negotiations and product investment decisions.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, including consolidated submissions to the parent company.
- Produce ad hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead the Accounting Specialists responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, data entry and process support.
- Work closely with the Manager of Project Finance and Operations Support on project accounting, resource planning, scheduling and utilisation.
- Manage annual project and departmental budgets in partnership with executives and senior managers.
- Prepare additional forecasts in response to contract changes.
- Establish and monitor daily cash balances and cash-flow forecasts.
- Ensure sufficient funding is available for operational and capital requirements.
- Plan vendor payment schedules and approve outgoing payments.
- Prepare covenant calculations and reporting for banking partners.
- Support new loan arrangements and facilitate existing loans.
- Maintain banking relationships and contribute to short- and long-term liquidity forecasting.
- Manage tax preparation and filing, including federal and state taxes completed by third-party providers.
- Prepare and submit sales, corporate and other required tax forms.
- Act as the primary contact for the division’s insurance broker, managing policy queries, changes and renewals.
- Arrange short- and long-term insurance policies and location permits.
- Oversee provincial and local operating licence compliance.
- Manage the division’s bonding arrangements, including expirations, renewals and returns.
- Advise on bonding capacity during pricing and proposal activities.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, providing documentation and subject-matter support for financial, banking, insurance and parent-company audits.
- Ensure compliance with local, provincial and federal reporting obligations, tax legislation, regulatory requirements and audit standards.
- Manage external auditor relationships.
- Identify financial risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field.
- CPA or an equivalent professional designation is strongly preferred.
- At least 8-12 years of progressive financial leadership experience.
- Strong financial judgement and strategic thinking.
- Advanced financial modelling and analytical capabilities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Proficiency with ERP or comparable financial systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
