Reporting to the General Manager, the AssistantGeneral Manager (AGM) helps the General Manager by looking after the day-to-day operations, bringing the various business priorities into line and making sure that the service is both safe and efficient. Acts as the General Manager's delegate and heads the organization and takes the necessary operational decisions, promoting a proactive and adaptable atmosphere.
The AGM works with the General Manager to ensureoperational objectives align with the company's goals, to foresee any problemsbeforehand, and to keep the organization moving forward.
The AGM makes decisions in a timely mannerwithin the budgets and policies that have been approved and raises anysignificant risks or issues to the General Manager.
KeyResponsibilities
- Support development of overall leadership andvision to the company, establishing strategic priorities and growth plans inalignment with shareholder objectives.
- Support building a high-performance culturebased on accountability, safety, customer satisfaction, and continuousimprovement.
- Act as the face of the company with clients,community, regulators, and industry stakeholders when the general Manager isnot available.
- Support driving revenue growth throughbusiness development, customer retention, and expansion of service offerings.
- Help build and manage key clientrelationships, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and service quality.
- Identify market opportunities, competitivethreats, and operational improvements to strengthen the company’s marketposition.
- Focus on day-to-day operations so the GeneralManager can create new Business Development opportunities.
- Assist the General Manager by approving andcoding routine expenses
- Be a second set of eyes and a sounding boardon financial analyses and reports
- Support cost saving and incentive programs bycreating capacity for the General Manager.
- Support the General Manager by overseeingdaily operational activities to ensure efficiency, safety, and compliance.
- Assist in maintaining company assets—includingfleet, equipment, and facilities—by ensuring preventative maintenance schedulesare followed and issues are escalated promptly.
- Contribute to continuous operationalimprovements and adoption of best practices across the organization.
- Help coordinate workforce scheduling, monitorservice delivery, and address operational issues as they arise.
- Help build, develop, and lead a strongmanagement team across operations, sales, HR, and administration.
- Reinforce clear accountability structures byhelping to communicate performance expectations and participating in coachingand development efforts.
- Promote a safe, respectful, and collaborativework environment that aligns with the company’s culture of continuousimprovement.
- Assist the General Manager by preparingreporting inputs and supporting the flow of transparent operational andfinancial information.
- Support compliance with regulatory,environmental, and safety standards.
- Act as a point of contact for routinecommunications and updates when the General Manager is unavailable.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4-5 years of progressiveleadership experience, preferably in waste management, construction,transportation, logistics, industrial services, or another asset-intensiveindustry.
- Demonstrated experience supportingoperational and financial performance, including exposure to profit-and-loss(P&L;) management.
- Post-secondary education in EnvironmentalScience, Waste Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a relateddiscipline is preferred.
- Robust relationship-builder, both internally(employees, management team) and externally (clients, regulators, community).
- Experience in safety-driven, regulated industrieswould be an asset.
- Strong business acumen with fluency inoperations, finance, sales, and HR.
- Proven leadership skills: able to inspire,coach, and hold teams accountable.
- Experience working within safety-driven,environmentally regulated industries is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office andbusiness management software.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence, with theability to travel between operating locations as required
- Familiarity with Yellowknives Denelanguage, culture, governance, values, and way of life is considered a strongasset.
