Role Overview
We are looking for a Technical Architect environment for one of our clients, an investment bank set in Montreal.
The Regulatory Reporting Technical Architect is a senior hands‑on role responsible for the design, evaluation, and delivery of a Proof of Concept (POC) for a next‑generation regulatory reporting architecture. The initiative aims to replace an existing vendor solution with a hybrid model combining an internalized mapping engine and a modern technology stack. The architect will lead end‑to‑end technical decisions — from data modeling and pipeline design to front‑end visualization and AI‑assisted validation — while ensuring the solution meets regulatory compliance, auditability, and data lineage requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Architectural Design: Define the end‑to‑end technical architecture for the regulatory reporting POC, covering all layers from data ingestion to reporting.
- Output: Ensure the POC design satisfies non‑functional requirements: performance, scalability, availability, security, and regulatory compliance (auditability, data lineage).
- Define data models, storage strategy (Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, OpenMetadata) and processing pipelines (Spark, Kafka, Airflow).
- Ensure seamless integration across all technical components for selected data sets and regulatory reports.
- Design and validate a complete end‑to‑end data pipeline: from initial data loading through processing to aggregated final output, including data validation and quality frameworks.
- Technology Selection & Integration: Evaluate, benchmark, and standardize the technology stack across the following components: Angular 17+, AG Grid, Spring Boot, Python FastAPI/Django, Node.js, Camunda/Temporal, Apache Airflow, Spark, Kafka, Drools, OpenMetadata, Superset, Tableau,
Power BI, RESTful API interfaces, Oracle.
- AI: Assess and recommend cloud platform architecture aligned with the organization’s infrastructure blueprint (AWS, IBM Cloud, or GCP).
- Integrate selected vendor solutions and internal components within a coherent, scalable architecture.
- Proof of Concept Delivery: Drive the POC from inception to demo, overseeing back‑end services, front‑end visualization, workflow orchestration, and rule engine integration.
- Conduct performance, load, and security testing throughout the POC lifecycle.
- Produce technical documentation, ROI analysis, and migration roadmap.
- Ensure the POC completes on time with validated integration across all selected components.
- AI & Prompt Engineering: Explore and implement AI‑assisted data validation, anomaly detection, and automated insight generation using LLMs and prompt engineering.
- Leverage Oracle AI capabilities within the data and reporting layers.
- Recommend responsible AI practices and model governance frameworks suited to a regulated financial environment.
- Collaborate with Finance & Risk Systems business and technology stakeholders to align architecture decisions with business requirements.
- Present architectural recommendations and POC progress to senior stakeholders.
- Contribute to the definition of a target operating model (TOM) for the next‑generation reporting platform.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- 10+ years of experience in software architecture or technical architecture roles, with at least 5 years on complex data platform or reporting systems.
- Demonstrated experience delivering proofs of concept or greenfield architecture design in a financial services context.
- Prior exposure to regulatory reporting systems (e.g., Axiom, AxiomSL, ALMIS, or equivalent) is a significant asset.
- Hands‑on experience integrating heterogeneous technology stacks (front‑end, back‑end, streaming, rule engine, cloud).
- Experience working within a Target Operating Model (TOM) transformation program.
- Background in investment banking, CIB, or similar regulated financial institutions.
- Technical stack experience: Angular, Spring Boot, Python FastAPI/Django, Node.js, Camunda/Temporal, Apache Airflow, Spark, Kafka, Drools, OpenMetadata.
- Strong knowledge of data pipeline design patterns (batch, streaming, lambda/kappa architectures).
- Familiarity with regulatory reporting frameworks and financial data models.
- Experience with RESTful API design and microservices architecture.
- Understanding of data lineage, audit trail, and data quality frameworks.
- Technical Leadership: able to drive architecture decisions across a complex, multi‑technology stack.
- Structured Thinking: brings clarity and rigor to ambiguous, open‑ended technical challenges.
- Communication: able to translate complex technical trade‑offs into business‑friendly recommendations.
- Autonomy: comfortable leading a POC with limited supervision in a fast‑paced setting.
- Collaboration: builds effective working relationships with both technical and business stakeholders.
