The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) at the University of Calgary invites applications for an academic position in Veterinary Neurology (teaching). Depending on qualifications and career track expectations, appointments will be made at the rank of Associate Professor (with tenure, teaching) or Professor (with tenure, teaching). The anticipated start date is October 1, 2026 or a mutually agreed upon date.
Requirements
Qualifications include a DVM (or equivalent), and board certification (ACVIM neurology and/or Dipl. ECVN) is required. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta.

- Appointment to the rank of Associate Professor (Teaching) (with tenure) requires evidence of teaching effectiveness, a demonstrated ability to apply scholarly approaches to teaching and learning and student engagement, to design student learning experiences and assessment strategies. Continuous development of cutting-edge teaching that supports student learning, ability to create respectful and inclusive learning environments is required.
- Appointment at the rank of Full Professor (Teaching) (with tenure) requires evidence of the highest quality of contributions and educational leadership and scholarship in teaching and learning. The appointment at the rank of Full Professor (Teaching) requires a demonstration of the highest quality of contributions to a research‑informed practice and inquiry into teaching and learning and is reserved for those who are outstanding in their discipline or field and recognized for their leadership contributions to teaching and learning.
Responsibilities
Teaching will be a significant component of the expected distribution of effort and will include didactic, clinical and professional identity laboratories, and 4th year (clinical year) rotation teaching in the DVM program.
UCVM employs a distributed veterinary teaching hospital model. Clinical duties including student rotation teaching will occur in partner specialty practices and other practice settings. Participation in collaborative student or intern‑led clinical research is desired. The remainder of distribution of effort will be divided for university service engagements such as course or rotation coordination, committee work and/or scholarly activity. Clinical practice opportunities may be possible for qualified DVM candidates. Guidance and support will be given in establishing relationships with local clinics, based on desires and opportunities available.
