Overview

The rehab assistant will be responsible for assisting patients who have been discharged from hospital or are living at home, with various illnesses, impairments and injuries.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Implement rehabilitation programs with clients as directed by the Physiotherapist and/or Occupational Therapist.
- Promote maximum independence of clients in home, community, and work to support reintegration.
- Implement exercise programs as directed.
- Implement behavioral interventions as directed.
- Facilitate and supervise activities of daily living as directed.
- Facilitate and implement social re‑integration as directed.
- Facilitate and implement educational and vocational re‑integration as directed.
- Facilitate and implement cognitive therapy programs as directed.
- Promote and implement leisure activities as directed.
- Attend case conferences and team meetings as required.
- Drive clients as directed (with valid insurance coverage).
- Understand and implement infection prevention practice.
- Participate in ongoing internal and/or external continuing education activities.
- Adhere to Bayshore Policies and Procedures.
- Participate in quality activities and continuous improvement initiatives in keeping with the company’s Quality Management System.
- Participate in proactive health & safety activities while performing all duties; notify immediate supervisor of any health & safety risks or concerns.
- Maintain confidentiality of client and corporate information and discuss it only with appropriate Bayshore personnel.
- Complete other tasks as requested.

Reporting Relationships





The Rehab Assistant reports to the Director Therapy & Rehabilitation, Manager of Rehab, or designate as appropriate.

Education

Completion of a recognized Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and/or Rehabilitation Assistant college program.

Also considers a university degree in Kinesiology or a similar health care degree.

Experience

OTA/PTA education is an asset. Job experience specific to acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, and musculoskeletal injuries, WSIB and auto insurance are assets.

- Enjoy dealing with people and working in a fast‑paced customer service environment.
- Solid oral and written communication and customer service skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle difficult situations in an objective, consistent manner.
- Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team.
- Ability to be self‑directed and take direction.
- Demonstrated knowledge of personal computers and proficiency with secure email.
- Commitment to continual learning.
- Valid driver’s license.

Standards of Performance

The Rehab Assistant must demonstrate ongoing competency in completing all duties and responsibilities of this job description, in response to changes by the regulating body, as well as agreed‑upon specific goals and objectives.

Performance Review

Performance will be reviewed on an ongoing basis with a formal review if required. Input will be sought from employees and consultants at the branch and National Service Centre as applicable.
