Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reports to the Nurse Manager, Department Head or designate. This position functions as the first-line supervisor for the unit/program. The position has the on-going responsibility to coordinate the day-to-day patient care activities and the use of staff, equipment and resources for the unit/program.



This position also plans and provides direct nursing care to patients/residents in the hospital or in the community in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies and the CRNBC Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

Graduation from a recognized nursing program. Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Three (3) years recent clinical nursing experience, including supervisory experience, in a relevant clinical setting.

Skills And Abilities

- Demonstrated clinical competence in the relevant clinical setting.
- Ability to supervise.
- Ability to organize, coordinate and prioritize the use of equipment, staff, and resources.
- Ability to problem-solve.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

There will be a 6-week orientation program that will take place prior to the start date.
