The Director of Care (DOC) is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and management of resident care services within a long-term care (LTC) facility. The DOC ensures high-quality clinical care, regulatory compliance, staff supervision, and resident-centered practices that promote safety, dignity, and quality of life for residents. The DOC works collaboratively with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, residents, families, and senior leadership to maintain excellence in nursing and clinical operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Leadership: Oversee all nursing and clinical care services within the LTC home; ensure delivery of safe, evidence-based, resident-centered care; develop, implement, and evaluate care programs and clinical policies; monitor resident outcomes and quality indicators; lead infection prevention and control initiatives; ensure appropriate medication management and clinical documentation standards.
- Staff Management & Supervision: Recruit, orient, mentor, and evaluate nursing and clinical staff; provide leadership to Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed/Registered Practical Nurses (LPNs/RPNs), personal support workers, and allied health professionals; manage staffing schedules and ensure adequate staffing levels; promote staff engagement, professional development, and retention; address performance issues and support corrective action processes when necessary.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable long-term care legislation, accreditation standards, and professional practice guidelines; prepare for inspections, audits, and accreditation reviews; maintain up-to-date policies and procedures aligned with provincial and federal regulations; investigate and document incidents, complaints, and critical events.
- Resident & Family Relations: Foster positive relationships with residents and families; participate in care conferences and family meetings; address concerns and complaints in a timely and professional manner; promote resident rights, dignity, and quality of life.
- Quality Improvement & Risk Management: Lead quality improvement initiatives and monitor performance metrics; analyze trends related to falls, infections, wounds, medication errors, and other clinical indicators; support continuous improvement and best practices in geriatric care; participate in emergency preparedness and risk management planning.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with physicians, pharmacy, rehabilitation, dietary, recreation, and social work teams; participate in leadership meetings and strategic planning initiatives; support a collaborative and respectful workplace culture.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent nursing degree required.
- Current registration in good standing with the applicable provincial nursing regulatory body.
- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive nursing leadership experience, preferably in long-term care or seniors’ care.
- Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and standards.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Experience with quality improvement and infection prevention/control programs.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical documentation systems.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

Clinical Education Coordinator
The Clinical Education Coordinator develops, implements,
and evaluates educational programs that support clinical excellence, staff competency, regulatory compliance, and professional development within the healthcare organization. This role collaborates with clinical leadership, educators, and healthcare professionals to ensure effective onboarding, continuing education, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, coordinate, and deliver clinical education and training programs for healthcare staff.
- Assess learning needs and develop educational materials, presentations, and competency tools.
- Coordinate orientation and onboarding programs for new clinical employees.
- Monitor staff competency validation and maintain training records.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with department leaders to identify educational gaps and performance improvement opportunities.
- Support continuing education initiatives, certifications, and professional development activities.
- Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, feedback, and performance outcomes.
- Stay current with evidence-based practices, healthcare regulations, and clinical trends.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred (Open to RN and LPN as well)
- Current professional clinical license/certification (e.g., RN, LPN) as applicable.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical experience.
- Previous experience in staff education, training, or clinical instruction preferred.
- Solid knowledge of adult learning principles and clinical competency standards.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with learning management systems and Microsoft Office applications.

As a team leader, you will be involved in all aspects of unit activities in the provision of nursing care to the resident. The Nurse actively participates in the nursing process to meet the specific needs of residents as individuals ensuring current gerontological practice. The Nurse practices within the scope of the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics as defined by the Nova Scotia College of Nurses.

Responsibilities:
- Carries out daily responsibilities following best practice standards and job performance requirements within the scope of practice of the NSCN
- Participates in the implementation of organizational goals
- Complete all documentation and charting on residents’ files, incident reports etc. as applicable, and access any required resident information in Point Click Care.
- Administer medications according to physician orders. Document appropriately (PCC)
- Maintain confidentiality concerning residents, employees, organizational data and information.
- Cooperates with fellow employees and Management to promote a positive atmosphere for residents, their families, coworkers and visitors
- Communicate and work with family members and other health care providers to develop a care plan when additional care is needed.
- Respond immediately to emergency situations involving residents, staff, or visitors
- Supervise other staff while on duty when required.

Qualifications:
- Current registration with the NSCN
- Standard First Aid, CPR and Phlebotomy (required)
- Bachelor of Nursing is an asset

CCAs
Continuing Care Assistants are responsible for providing direct and indirect Resident care under the supervision of the Charge Nurse and/or Director of Care. The CCA works within his/her scope of practice and follows established facility policies and procedures while providing care, and coordinates resident care with other departments within Willow Lodge.
Responsibilities:
- Provide personal hygiene, oral care, skin care, toileting, bathing, feeding, dressing and grooming, and emotional support
- Maintain confidentiality concerning residents, staff and organizational information
- Work within the CCA Scope of Practice
- Provide companionship and emotional support to residents
- Maintain a safe and clean environment, adhering to facility infection control policies
Qualifications:
- Current Standard First-Aid and CPR certification (required)
- Successful completion or enrollment in a CCA program (required)
- Registered with the CCA Registry (required)
- Effective communication, both written and verbal in English
- Physically fit/able to perform physically demanding job duties
- Reliable and punctual with a good attendance record

Job Summary:
Environmental Care Partners are responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness within Willow Lodge and maintaining an adequate supply of clean linen and clothing.
General Qualifications, Knowledge, Education and Skills:
- High School diploma desirable or equivalent
- Must have WHMIS.
- Completion of Alzheimer’s Course an asset.
- Must demonstrate a personality compatible to this position with a genuine concern for the elderly and mentally/physically challenged.
- Must be in good physical and mental health.
- Must demonstrate effective communication skills, oral, verbal and written.
- Must be able to work every second weekend.
- Experience working with the elderly and mentally challenged adults considered an asset.
- Must be able to take direction and accept constructive feedback.
Food Service Knowledge, Education and Skills:
- Must have Food Handlers Course.
- Must have some experience in food preparation and an understanding of special diets.
- Must be able to follow direction in providing Residents diets.
- Must be flexible.
