Occupational Therapist (Mental Health & Addictions)

Mississauga, ON | Full-Time | Monday to Friday

Avalign is currently recruiting an Occupational Therapist on behalf of a respected community mental health organization in Mississauga, Ontario . This is an exciting opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) supporting adults living with severe and persistent mental illness.

What You'll Do

As the Occupational Therapist, you'll work directly with clients in the community to help them build the skills, confidence, and independence needed to achieve their recovery goals.

Responsibilities include:

- Conduct occupational therapy assessments, including cognitive, functional, sensory, and life skills evaluations
- Develop individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans
- Support clients with activities of daily living, community integration, vocational readiness, housing transitions, and self-management
- Recommend adaptive equipment and environmental modifications where appropriate
- Facilitate individual and group-based interventions focused on life skills, wellness, recovery, and community participation
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurses, addiction specialists, peer support workers, vocational specialists, and other interdisciplinary team members
- Complete clinical documentation, assessments, progress notes, and discharge planning
- Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
- Advocate for clients while promoting recovery-oriented,

What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone who is compassionate, collaborative, and committed to supporting individuals experiencing mental health and addiction challenges.

Qualifications

- Registered Occupational Therapist in valuable standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO)
- 0 to 3 years of experience in mental health and/or addictions
- Experience conducting occupational therapy assessments
- Strong communication, counselling, and relationship-building skills
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented practice and psychosocial rehabilitation
- Experience with crisis intervention and risk assessment is considered an asset
- Understanding of severe and persistent mental illness
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Valid Ontario G Driver's Licence
- Reliable vehicle and appropriate automobile insurance

Working Environment

- Community-based position supporting clients in their homes and throughout the community
- Regular travel within the Mississauga area
- Independent and team-based work environment
- Some lifting (up to 20 lbs) may be required

Successful candidates will receive training in naloxone administration within the first eight weeks of employment.
