Also known as the "Carbide and Carbon Building" and claimed to have been designed to resemble a champagne bottle as viewed from Lake Michigan, this historical Landmark building is unmistakable in Chicago's skyline. Terracotta restoration and rehabilitation work installed over multiple years on an as-needed basis with an extended exterior repair maintenance program implemented to preserve and restore the prominent historical features while working with the owners' budget while not interrupting the commitment as a hotel. Exterior restoration and maintenance work includes terracotta rebuilding at the 39th floor mitered walls, 38th floor water tables, 37th floor lintels and 24th floor parapet walls as well as as-needed remedial repairs at the base and upper tower of the building.

Additional repairs have been installed at the beaconed light atop the gold-leaved campanile, preservation of the gold-glazed terracotta units that accent the jade green terracotta wall areas, and reconstruction and refinishing of the historical bronze storefront and entrances.
