About the role We have an exciting opportunity to join our National Underwriting MGA, Risk-Can, as a Senior Commercial Underwriter on a permanent, full-time basis. If you have previous commercial underwriting experience and are looking to broaden your skills in a department that handles complex risks, this is the opportunity for you. This role offers a hybrid working model.
What you'll do here Underwrite various commercial lines submissions with the intent to offer insurance solutions for our brokers within department guidelines and contribute to a profitable portfolio of business.
Ensure proper underwriting, pricing, authorizing and documentation of moderate to complex new business submissions.
Work within established underwriting authority limits, structured parameters, rating matrices, and defined guidelines given under our contracts.
Build robust relationships with our brokers by offering insurance solutions that assist them in their front‑line sales and customer relationships.
Make recommendations to improve the department and increase its efficiency.
What you bring to the table Previous MGA experience is an asset.
Exceptional customer service skills and ability to develop strong relationships with our brokers.
Robust negotiation skills and business savvy.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities, work independently with guidelines and show initiative.
Ability to problem‑solve and make decisions.
Post‑secondary education.
5+ years of commercial underwriting experience.
Completion of or working towards a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation an asset.
Demonstrated expertise in underwriting complex, large, and/or non‑standard risks.
Proven experience providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior underwriters.
Above average computer proficiency in Excel, MS Office, Outlook.
No Canadian work experience required; however, must be eligible to work in Canada.
Advantages & Compensation Salary range (35‑hour workweek): 87,200 – 106,600 CAD.
Incentive plan: Annual bonus 10% target based on base salary, with a potential payout of up to 200% (subject to personal and company performance).
