What you’ll do
As a member of the Institute of Skilled Trades faculty team, you will:
- Provide theoretical and practical instruction in various apprentice and pre‑apprentice programs at Akerley Campus. Casual faculty may support the following programs:
- - Auto Body and Collision Repair
- Automotive Service and Repair
- Carpentry
- CNC Machining
- Gas Technician
- Heavy Duty Equipment / Truck and Transport Repair
- Heavy Duty Equipment Repair
- Metal Fabrication
- Power Engineering Technology
- Precision Machining
- Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
- Sheet Metal Systems
- Truck and Transport Repair
- Welding
- Collaboratively design and deliver educational experiences for a diverse group of learners, including preparation, instruction, assessment, and evaluation.
- Collaborate with faculty and other colleagues to inform teaching and learning practices, refine curriculum, and support student success.
- Ensure health and safety practices and procedures are followed in classroom, shops, and labs.
- Maintain currency with the latest industry practices relevant to your program and continually develop your teaching and learning practices.
- Deliver instruction in different modalities – in‑class, online, blended online/in‑class, off‑site instruction, and alternate work hours such as weekends and evenings.
Qualifications and Occupational Experience
- Valid Red Seal certification in the specific trade that matches the opportunity.
- Minimum five years (full‑time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in that trade.
- Experience liaising with business and industry in the field.
- Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Office, email, multimedia tools, and platforms for engaging students in online and blended learning environments.
- Ability to effectively teach in online and blended settings is an asset, including:
- - Understanding and building knowledge of best practices for delivering courses delivered whole or in part online.
- Using a course management system to communicate with students and manage course content.
- Fostering and supporting a collaborative online learning community among students.
- Willingness to participate in training if lacking prior experience with online/blended teaching models.
- Experience delivering educational programs or training to adults is ideal.
- Occupational experience including providing performance feedback is considered an asset.
- Knowledge and experience in applying WHMIS, occupational health, and safety, and occupation‑specific safety practices.

Advantages
Wellness programs and participation in a Casual Faculty Pool. Competitive salary scale for NSCC Faculty ranging from $78,771.88 to $104,267.58. New faculty may receive up to five steps for occupational experience and up to four steps for full‑time equivalent instructional experience, with a maximum of nine steps ($97,388.02).
